Kenneth "Kenny" Berger, age 65 of Waubun, MN, died Friday, October 4, 2013, at Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home under Hospice Care of the Red River Valley.
Kenny was born January 26, 1948, in Mahnomen, the only son of Robert and Gladys (Buschette) Berger. He attended school and graduated from Mahnomen High School. In 1967, Kenny was united in marriage to Linda Marthaler. The couple made their home in Waubun and to this union a son, Richard, was born. Kenny furthered his education at the Northwest Technical College in Detroit Lakes, MN, for drafting. Upon completion of his schooling, Kenny began working for Mahnomen County followed by a time for Winter Truck Lines. For many years, he was also employed by S & S Construction and traveled most of the summer months. Ken married Pam Niemitalo and together they had three additional children: Logan, Lacey and Loque. They moved to Waubun in 1982 and Kenny began working for Cenex. The couple later divorced but Kenny remained in Waubun. He continued to work for Cenex until his retirement in 2010. Due to his failing health, Kenny recently moved into the nursing home.
A true sportsman would be words to describe Kenny. He loved to hunt and fish, especially in the winter when he wasn't working. He was a member of the Mahnomen Rod and Gun Club. Kenny also enjoyed the great outdoors and planted a large garden every year. He was an easy going individual with a great sense of humor. He was good with a joke and always willing to visit.
Kenny is survived by three sons: Richard (Judy) Berger, Waubun, Logan (Anna) Berger, and Loque Berger, both of Detroit Lakes, MN; a daughter, Lacey (Dave) Carter also of Detroit Lakes; seven grandchildren: Morgan, Blake, Jonah Berger and Jadyn, Kash, Finley and Selah Carter; one sister, Karen Berger, Waubun; two uncles: Dennis Buschette, Waubun, and Donald Thiel, Portland, OR, and several cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents.
