Kenneth Anderson, age 76, of Waubun, MN, died on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
Kenneth Eugene was born April 30, 1939, in White Earth, MN, to Vernon L. and Genevieve (LaGue) Anderson. He grew up in the Ponsord, MN, area where he attended the Bongo School followed by Waubun High School. Following his schooling, Kenny entered the United States Army in May of 1959. After his honorable discharge in 1962, Kenny returned to Minnesota. He moved to Florida where he worked on the Florida East Coast Railroad for several years. While in Florida, Kenny was united in marriage to Susan Darrock. The couple later divorced and he moved back to the White Earth Reservation in 1977. Following a stroke and deteriorating health, Kenny was unable to continue working. He moved to the Mahnomen Health Center in December of 2014.
Always handing out candy to everyone, children and adults alike, Kenneth was given the nickname of "Candy Man". He loved visiting with family and friends, playing cards and the occasional trip to the casino. Kenny also liked the outdoors especially when he was hunting, fishing, shooting a black powder rifle or attending black powder shoots. Kenny was a long time member of Elbow Lake Lutheran Church and the AMVETS.
Kenneth is survived by a sister, Beverly (Glenn) VanWert, of Ogema, MN; two brothers, Vernon R. (LaVonne) Anderson and Glen (Virginia) Anderson, both of Waubun; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Larry, Boyd and Alvin; and two nephews, John and Brian Anderson.
Memorial Services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Elbow Lake Lutheran Church, rural Waubun, MN. A time of gathering was held one hour prior at the church. Burial will be held in the Spring at Vernon Anderson Memorial Cemetery.
