Kathleen "Kathy" Sullivan, age 88, of Ulen, MN, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
Kathleen Ann Corcoran was born on April 11, 1936, in Flandreau, SD, to Timothy and Mary (Theis) Corcoran. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic church. Throughout her life, Kathleen's faith was a constant source of strength, and she prayed often for her family and friends. As a young girl, Kathleen moved with her family to Ulen, MN, where she grew up alongside her only brother, Fritz. She graduated from Ulen High School and later attended technical college for a time before beginning her own family story. When at a local dance hall, Kathleen met the love of her life, Edwin Sullivan. After a few dances and many meaningful conversations, Eddie asked Kathleen to be his wife, and on July 7, 1956, they were married at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Ogema, MN. The couple started their life together on a farm near Ulen, where they raised a family of five boys—first came the surprise of identical twins, Mark and Mike, followed by a miraculous blessing of identical triplets, Perry, Paul, and Pat. Raising five active boys on the farm was a full-time job for Kathleen, who embraced every challenge with grace. She was deeply involved in the daily operations of the farm, from planting and harvesting to delivering hearty meals to the men working the fields. When evening came, a hot supper was always waiting for them at the table. Kathleen also cared for the yard, tended her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and canned her produce for the winter months. Despite the demands of farm life, she made sure to support her sons in their extracurricular activities, whether it was attending basketball games, cheering them on at wrestling matches, or watching their school musicals. Kathy and Eddie appreciated the outdoors and loved taking the boys out for an adventure, creating cherished memories on camping trips in their converted school bus, fishing at the lake, and hunting in Montana. They also enjoyed travel, exploring the beauty of Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, Montana, Minnesota and Mexico. After retiring from farming, Kathleen and Eddie spent their summers at Twin Haven near Detroit Lakes, MN, and their winters in Apache Junction, AZ. These years were filled with relaxation, time with dear friends, and Kathleen's many hobbies. She loved playing cards, knitting, doing cross-stitch, and crocheting. But above all, Kathleen cherished time spent with her family. Whether they were playing at the lake, sharing stories, or simply laughing together, the love and joy that Kathleen felt for her family truly radiated. Several years ago, Kathleen and Eddie returned to Ulen, where they made their home at the Northern Lights Assisted Living and later Viking Manor Nursing Home. Kathleen was known for her thoughtful tradition of sending cards and writing letters to her loved ones, often sharing a recipe or two along the way. She had a sweet, humble nature and genuinely appreciated the kindness shown to her. She lived a life full of gratitude and love. Kathleen's legacy is one of deep devotion—devotion to her faith, to her family, and to the beautiful life she built with Eddie.
Kathleen is survived by her husband of 68 years, Eddie of Ulen; five sons, Mark of Fargo, Michael (Kelee) of Ulen, Perry (Jodi) of Bismarck, ND, Paul (Tiffany) of Ulen, and Patrick (Cindy) of Cave Creek, AZ; 13 grandchildren: and 14 great-grandchildren plus eagerly awaiting the arrival of #15; as well as several siblings-in-law; nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Timothy and Mary Corcoran; and her brother and sister-in-law, Francis "Fritz" and Sonja Corcoran.
