Kay McNamee, age 75, of Mahnomen, MN, passed away at her home on
September 2, 2014.
Kathleen Louise Adams, the daughter of Albert and Christine (Paggen) Adams, was born on December 15, 1938 and grew up on a farm 6 miles East of Waubun, MN. She graduated from Waubun High school in 1956. Kay was introduced to Bob McNamee at a dance in 1957. She said, "Bob shook my hand and never let go." They were united in marriage on October 11, 1958. Together they worked to build a life and farm 12 miles east of Mahnomen. Through the 56 years together, they raised many things on 'The Farm' from small grains, beef cows, pigs, chickens, but most important to her were her 14 children: seven sons and seven daughters.
Kay was a very active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beaulieau. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her family was the center of her life. She taught them to appreciate the beauty of the simple things, make do with what they had, and to enjoy each other's company. Kay was very artistic, enjoyed her garden, playing cards, and was an avid bird watcher.
On October 12, 2013 the first small symptom in her speech was noticed. In April 2014, she was diagnosed with ALS or Lou Gerhig's Disease. Even through this difficult chapter, Kay touched the hearts of many with her continued warmth, generosity, and thoughtfulness towards others. She bravely struggled with the daily challenges of her illness. She passed away peacefully in her home with the love and support of her family and hospice.
