Karl Schulz, age 86, of Twin Valley, MN, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Karl Amund Schulz was born on June 23, 1937, in Hendricks, MN, to Clarence "Eddie" and Thelma (Ronning) Schulz. He was a native of White, SD, and went on to play football and graduate from General Beadle (Dakota State University) in 1960. Karl received his Master's Degree at South Dakota State University and furthered his education at Tri-College in Fargo, ND, earning his specialist in education. His teaching career first started in Trent, SD, where he was a classroom teacher, and later to Magnolia, MN, where he taught history and coached football. Karl served as a high school counselor in Wheaton, MN, and assumed the role of high school principal in Twin Valley in 1976, retiring as the superintendent of the school in 1995.

On June 3, 1959, Karl married the love of his life, LaDonna Silkenson, in Beresford, SD. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Lin. For over 46 years, Karl and LaDonna called Twin Valley home. In 2011, they were honored as philanthropists of the year at Dakota State University. Throughout their retirement, they were able to travel to Germany and all 50 states, making many precious memories together and with family.

Devoted to the Twin Valley community and its school system, Karl always prioritized the best interests of students and was known for his attentive ear to parents, staff, and students alike. He was a member of the Twin Valley Lions and Zion Lutheran Church. He kept busy with hunting, fishing, and playing golf. Karl was a devoted follower of all athletics, including his college alma mater, Twin Valley/ Norman County East, the NDSU Bison, and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Karl Schulz leaves behind a legacy of dedication, compassion, and a love for life that will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace.

Karl is survived by his wife of 64 years, LaDonna Schulz; daughter, Lin (Randy) Gregg; grandchildren, Lindsey (Adam) Noble and Cody Gregg; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Levi Noble; brothers: Jeff Schulz, Chuck (Linda) Schulz, and Gary (Socorra) Schulz; sister, Mona (Chuck) Hanson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by beloved extended family.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., with a visitation starting one hour before, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, MN.
