Justin P. Klemetson, age 89, of Ulen, MN, died Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Sanford Health Broadway in Fargo, ND.

Justin Philip, lovingly known as J.P., was born on September 11, 1929 to Gustav and Olga (Peterson) Klemetson on the family farm near Ulen, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Atlanta Lutheran Church. He was raised in the Ulen community where he attended country school through eighth grade and graduated with the Ulen High School Class of 1948. Justin then spent the summer working in Montana before joining the United States Air Force. Following his honorable discharge, Justin received his training in diesel mechanics from North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND. Justin was united in marriage to Muriel Hansen on February 12, 1955, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen. The couple owned and operated a farm together near Ulen. Although farming was his true passion, Justin also kept busy doing mechanic work as time permitted. In the late 1990's, they sold the farm to their son, but Justin continued to help on a daily basis. Three years ago, Justin and Muriel moved into Northern Lights Assisted Living where they have made their home together since.

Justin was extremely active in the community and enjoyed helping others.  He was a member of the Ulen-Hitterdal School Board, Tri-County Elevator Board, Farmer's Union, 40 & 8, and Walworth Township Board for 40 years.  He was also a charter member of the Ulen Lions Club, snowmobile safety instructor, and he helped organize the Memorial Day services in Ulen. He was very proud to be a part of the American Legion, and had participated in the Honor Flight in May of 2016. He always enjoyed the Happy Hooligan breakfasts and being active on the Veterans' Memorial Committee. His commitment to faith showed through as he served on the Bethlehem Lutheran Council and on the Bethlehem Cemetery Board. Justin enjoyed traveling on their trips to Hawaii, Norway, and their winters in Arizona. His gift of gab led him to spend his spare time visiting and playing cards. He also had a passion for spending time fishing at their cabin on White Earth Lake, and hunting at his shack near Richwood. He also was an avid reader. Most of all, Justin cherished his family and spending time with them.

Justin is survived by his wife, Muriel; one son, Robert (Stacy) Klemetson of Ulen; four daughters: Susan (Lonnie) Anderson of Ulen, Karen (Leon) Andersen of Fargo, ND, Janet (Brian) Maesse of Ulen, and Jennifer (Cris) Anderson of Hitterdal, MN; 13 grandchildren: Kristin (William) Johnson, Luke (MeLissa) Anderson, Lindsay (Zach) Ernst, Jonathan (Jen) Erdahl, Karissa Andersen, Jacob Andersen, Griffin Maesse, Tate Maesse, Lydia Klemetson, Treyton Klemetson, Reed Klemetson, Justin Anderson, and Alissa Anderson; nine great grandchildren: Zaria, Isaiah, Jupiter, Samantha, Abigail, Tobias, Emma, Levi, and Owen; two sisters, Ardith Fuglie of Sun City, AZ, and Orpha (Gene) Schultz of Ulen; two sisters-in-law, Irene Klemetson of Ulen, and Janine Mattson of Eagan, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Marlin; one daughter, Jane; and his granddaughter, Emily.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 pm, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen, on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. Visitation will also be one hour before the funeral at the church on Thursday. Burial will take place at North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen following the funeral service.
