June Kersting-Peterson, age 58, of Waubun, MN, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.

June Pauline Kersting was born June 5, 1953 in Detroit Lakes, MN, the daughter of Richard and Genevieve (Eveslage) Kersting. She attended school in Waubun and graduated from Waubun High School with the class of 1971. Following graduation, June attended cosmetology training and also began working at Norby's Department Store in Detroit Lakes. After a few years, June began her career with Farmers State Bank in Waubun which later changed to Midwest Bank. She was a dedicated employee who was with the bank for 31+ years, only to leave her job a few months ago due to her failing health.

On June 22, 1991 June was united in marriage to William "Salty" Peterson at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. The couple made their home in Waubun where June was able to remain until the last week when she entered the Mahnomen Health Center.

Many activities like gardening and decorating, both her home and the bank, kept June busy, but none as much as shopping. She loved to shop and could be given the title of a "professional shopper" as she could spend hours on end shopping and leaving no aisle unturned. June was also a member of WOW (Women of Waubun) and St. Ann's Catholic Church and also enjoyed reading and watching television.

Surviving June are her husband, Salty, of Waubun; her mother, Genevieve Kersting of Waubun; three brothers: Steve (Bonnie) Kersting of Lakeville, MN, Mark (Brenda) Kersting of Waubun, and Curtis (Lynnae Wallace) Kersting of Moorhead, MN; her mother-in-law, Marcella Peterson of Waubun; sister-in-law, Kathy (Myron) Larson of Waubun; three brothers-in-law: Douglas Peterson, Richard Peterson and Donald Peterson all of Waubun; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; a sister, Darlene Kersting; father-in-law, Norris Peterson; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Pat Kersting and their daughter, Bridget.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10:30 am at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. Father Urban Figge OMI will officiate and Lea Stech will provide special music. Serving as honorary bearers will be all June's co-workers from Midwest Bank. A time of gathering will be held one hour prior on Saturday at the church.
