June Bellanger, age 80, of Milwaukee, WI, formerly Naytahwaush, MN, died on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at St. Luke?s Medical Center in Milwaukee. June Frances was born on June 10, 1927 in Mahnomen County to George and Elizabeth (Singer) Peabody. She grew up in Naytahwaush and later attended Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota. Following graduation, she worked various jobs in Fargo, ND and Detroit Lakes, MN. On April 2, 1946 June was united in marriage to Edward John Bellanger in Mahnomen. Soon after, they moved to Naytahwaush where they made their home for nearly twenty years. During that time she worked at the sewing factory in Naytahwaush. In 1965, June and Ed moved to Milwaukee, WI, where she worked for several years at Leader Cards Inc. After retiring, June kept busy working as a cook at the Indian Center in Milwaukee. An enthusiastic traveler, she enjoyed traveling to various places including San Diego, Florida and Mexico. June also liked to ride the city bus in Milwaukee, taking in the sights and visiting different places. Among her favorite places included Mitchell Street, where she liked to shop. June looked forward to summer vacations back in Naytahwaush; a place to catch up with her friends and attend Pow-Wows. June also enjoyed giving her time to others as a volunteer for organizations. Her most valued time however was the time spent with her grandchildren and family, who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her children: Dean (Bun) Bellanger, Waubun, Bernard Bellanger, Milwaukee, Steven (Ruth) Bellanger and Edward John Bellanger Jr., both of Naytahwaush and Doreen (Joe) Sudar, also of Naytahwaush; three sisters: Dorothy Blair, Verl (Mel) Fairbanks, Audrey (Jim) Griffin, all of Milwaukee; two brothers, Earl Peabody, Naytahwaush and Arnold (Charlotte) Peabody, Milwaukee; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. June was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Kenneth; a grandson, Wayne and a sister, Glendora Cook.
