Julie Ann Brookshire, 75, Halstad, MN, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Sanford Broadway Medical Center in Fargo, ND.  Julie Ann Saga was born on July 10, 1950, in Crookston, MN, to Leland H. and Valora (Bratten) Saga. Julie grew up and attended school in Mentor, MN, where she was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church. She graduated from Marion (Indiana) High School in 1968.

Julie met the love of her life at a dance at the legendary Maple Lake Pavilion. On January 14, 1967, she and Glen Brookshire were united in marriage at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor. After getting married, they settled in Marion, IN, where their children, Donna, Jason, and Carol Ann, were born while living in the Roseburg Pike neighborhood. The family moved to Minnesota in 1979, eventually settling in Halstad. The Brookshire home was a frequent gathering place for friends and family, and they hosted many holidays and get-togethers, welcoming everyone. Many of Donna and Jason's friends considered them a second set of parents. Glen and Julie were foster parents for many years and later adopted two daughters, Tanya and Savannah. Julie was active in the Halstad Rescue Squad and, over the years, worked in the laundry, housekeeping, and nursing departments at Halstad Living Center. Glen and Julie later established a home daycare, Julie's Playhouse, allowing Julie to provide care to their daughter Carol Ann, who had become disabled as a result of Reye's Syndrome in 1979. Julie took classes at Moorhead State University to further her education. She loved to decorate special cakes for her nieces and nephews and her daycare kids. Julie was also interested in home decor and holiday decorating. Glen used to joke they were "losing square footage" because of the frequent repainting and wallpapering. Julie was a part of the Happy Homemakers Club in Halstad, where she met many friends. Julie enjoyed having coffee with her friends and enjoyed the occasional girls' weekend. Halloween was her favorite holiday, and she had good memories of dressing up in group costumes with friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor and often "laughed until the tears ran down her leg." She and her sister Linda shared a special bond and enjoyed each other's company while traveling together.  Julie was a caregiver at heart and a kind and caring person all her life. Julie and Glen's daughter Carol Ann died in 2003 on Hospice care in their home. Glen battled cancer for some years, and Julie cared for him at home until he died in 2010. The deaths of her daughter and husband deeply affected Julie. The heartbreak of losing them was obvious; in her grief, she was never really able to adjust to life without them.

Julie is survived by her children, Donna Scholl and her sons Henry and Charlie of Halstad, MN; Jason (Barb) Brookshire and their children Emma and Lennon of Hawley, MN; Tanya Brookshire and special friend Evan of Halstad, MN, and Savannah Brookshire and special friend Reed of Moorhead, MN.
