Judy LaVonne Brevik, age 63, of Erskine, MN, died Saturday, January 3, 2015, in her home.

Judy Hassel was born February 14, 1951, at home to Sigvard and Selma (Prestegord) Hassel. She grew up in the Bear Park area and attended school in Fertile, MN, graduating with the class of 1969. Following graduation, Judy lived and worked in the Minneapolis, MN, area for a brief time. On May 26, 1971, Judy was united in marriage to Terry Brevik at Trinity Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, MN. Their first home was in Arizona while Terry was in the service. Following his discharge, the couple briefly lived in Twin Valley until moving to the Winger area to raise their family. Judy was a devoted mom and her main job was taking care of her children, but she also enjoyed painting with her dad and brothers for many summers. In the 1980's Terry and Judy operated T & J Service in Winger. When her kids were older, Judy started working for the Win-E-Mac School District. She was employed there for nearly 20 years as a Title I Aide. In 2001 she began working at the Shooting Star Casino, in Mahnomen, until her failing health forced her to retire in 2008.

Judy enjoyed the outdoors, was always busy, and had a hard time sitting still. She looked forward to family get togethers and the annual family lake trip. She enjoyed all the kids and grandkids coming over for dinner and visiting every Sunday. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and was usually shopping by July. Judy had a great sense of humor and was extremely witty. There was never a dull moment when "Jude" was around! Judy's life always revolved around family; Terry, her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. In the past several years, it has meant so much more. She was always the one to take care of everyone else and put their needs before her own. It was exceptionally hard for Judy when she became less mobile and more dependent on her family. However, with help from her family, and compassionate caregivers, she was able to remain comfortably in her own home.

Judy is survived by her husband of 43 years, Terry, of Erskine; their children and grandchildren: Jill (Tony) Jaeger of Brooks, MN, and their five children: Kourtney, Karlie, Karter, Keaton and Kenadie; Jodi Olson of Fertile and her four children: Tanner, Carter, Kadyn and Chloe; Jesi (Kyle) Dudycha of Oklee, MN; and their three children: Kelsie, Hunter, and Hannah; and Josh (Carrie Hoffart) Brevik of Winger and their six children: Keaton, Hunter, Dawson, Mason, Megan and Kale; two sisters, Sylvia (Boyd) Bratager, of Erskine and Darlene (Truman) Johnson, of Dilworth, MN; one brother, Larry Hassel of Fertile; one aunt, Irene Lovely of Goodridge, MN; her in-laws, Clifton and Dolly Brevik of Twin Valley; two sisters-in-law, Christine (Rodger) Roering, of Twin Valley, and Joey Brevik of Paynesville, MN; one brother-in-law, Bobby (Janice) Brevik of Tulaby Lake, rural Waubun and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Donald, Bobby and Conrad; a sister-in-law, Judy Hassel and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Faaberg Lutheran Church, Rindal, MN. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 8, from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Mahnomen, MN. Burial will be at Wild Rice Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley, MN.
