Watch Joyce's Funeral

Joyce Matson, 88, Ulen, MN died Monday, November 30, 2020 at her home.

On June 29, 1932 Joyce Ione Gwin was born to Raymond and Nora (Stucker) Gwin in rural Felton.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.  Joyce attended country school and high school in Hagen Township.

On July 2, 1947 Joyce was united in marriage to Willie Matson.  Together with what began as a pasture, they built their farmstead and raised six children.  As a busy farm wife and mother, Joyce spent her time baking bread, sewing, doing farm chores, feeding the hay crew and gardening.

Joyce enjoyed working activities at the Viking Manor.  She could often times be found in the kitchen at the Ulen Cafe, the Church, and the Ulen Auxiliary where she was a Lifetime Member.  She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's events, feeding and watching the birds, embroidery, crosswords, reading, and the Minnesota Twins.

Joyce will be remembered for her Faith in God, her kind and considerate nature and her subtle humor.

She is survived by her six children: Doris (James) Thompson of Wheatland, ND, Kenneth (Diane) Matson of Twin Valley, MN, Philip (Arlys) Matson of Ulen, Clayton (Vicky) Matson of West Fargo, ND, Carol (Marv Blakeway) Hilleren of Moorhead, MN, Nancy (Rocky) Burnside also of Ulen; 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter; and in-laws: Barbara Gwin, Loretta Braseth and Bob Harmoning.
