Joyce Cannon, 94, Ada, MN, formerly of Campbell, MN, died on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Riverview Place, Fargo, ND. Joyce Cecelia Rolson was born July 19, 1917, to Frank and Julia (O'Connell) Rolson in Delano, MN. She was raised in Ellsworth, WI, where she graduated from high school. She attended college in River Falls, WI and graduated with a degree in education in 1940. Joyce began her teaching career in Slinger, WI, while she awaited the return of John Cannon who was serving in World War II. They were married on October 11, 1945, in Ellsworth, WI, and lived in several cities while John taught school and Joyce began raising the family. In 1953 they moved to Campbell, MN, where they both continued their teaching careers. Joyce retired in 1983, having taught for 35 years. Her love of teaching has been passed down to her children and grandchildren resulting in many educators in the Cannon family. In 1997 John and Joyce moved to Ada, MN. During the remaining years of their marriage, they spent time enjoying their ever-growing family. John died in 1999 and Joyce remained in Ada. During the last 13 years, "Grandma Joycie" had the privilege of knowing 18 great-grandchildren. At the time of her death at Riverview Place she was comforted by the presence of the nuns whom she came to know and love. Joyce is survived by her children and 13 grandchildren: Susan (Jerald) Pederson, Hawley, MN (Timothy, Melissa, Robert and Kristi); Bobbie (Roberta) Krenz, West Fargo, ND (Amanda); Kathleen (Ollen) Church, Ada, MN (Heidi, Tyler and Kinsey); Mary Jo (Robin) Slavik, Fargo, ND (Nicole and Jessica); Michael (Amber) Cannon, Hutchinson, MN (Kiley, Kaitlin and Collin; 18 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, sons-in-law: Marc Schuler and Joel Krenz, and one grandchild, Lucas Church; two sisters, Audrey Hope and Roberta Dawson. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ralph Levitt and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their care. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley and the Roger Maris Cancer Center. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at 10 AM, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ada, MN. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 17, 2012, from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 pm in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ada, MN. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Campbell, MN on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at 2:30 PM.
