Obituary

Josephine Skalsky, 91, Ada, Minnesota, died Friday, September 28, 2007, in Bridges Medical Center, Ada, Minnesota.

Josephine H. Stewart was born April 6, 1916, the daughter of Charles and Florence (Hill) Stewart in Jackson, Minnesota. During her childhood, Jo traveled to many areas of the United States with her family since her parents were Federal Teachers. After graduating from high school, she attended one year of college. On September 9, 1936, Jo was united in marriage to Herman Skalsky in Jackson, Minnesota. The couple farmed there until moving to Ada in 1950. They continued farming until retiring in 1977. They later moved into town. For several years, Jo was employed as a census taker in Norman County. During their retirement years, Jo and Herman spent summers at Eagle Lake in the Battle Lake, Minnesota area, and at New Horizons Resort east of Waubun, Minnesota. Herman died April 30, 2006.

Jo's involvement in the Ada community included being charter member of Christian Mothers, a past chairwoman of the Norman County Republican Party, was a member of Homemakers Club, served as a 4-H leader for several years and was a member of Farm Bureau.

Jo's hobbies included reading, quilting and doing ceramics. She will be long remembered for her participation during Pioneer Days making candy as well as helping with the Pioneer Village in Ada during the Norman County Fair.

Jo is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo (Denny) Kreibich of Crookston, MN; two sons, Tom (Myrna) of Pine River, MN and Mike (Sharon) of Stockton, CA; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Skalsky of Battle Lake, MN; ten grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Toenjes of Grove City, MN, Andrew (Anne) Skalsky of Sacramento, CA, Bret (Naomi) Skalsky of La Porte, TX, Bart Skalsky of Pine River, MN, Darcee (Mark) Rehovsky of Casselton, ND, Todd Kreibich of Eveleth, MN, Denise (Matt) Truso of Chaska, MN, Carmen (Paul) Johnson of Blue Springs, MO, Tracy Skalsky (Enrique LeGarre) of Geneva, Switzerland, and Robin Skalsky of Sacramento, Ca; 14 great-grandchildren, Travis Skalsky, Chad and Devin Rehovsky, Jean Michael LeGarre, Cecilia and Claudia Toenjes, Hannah, Keegan, and Camden Kreibich, TJ Truso, and Landon, Hayden, and Coltin Johnson, and Jack Skalsky.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Edward Francis Skalsky, one brother, Charles and one sister, Florence.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 2:00pm in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ada, Minnesota. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm in the St. Joseph Catholic Church and also one hour before services at the church. A family service will be held Monday at 7:00pm at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Officiating will be Fr. Tom Friedl with ---- serving as organist and --- serving as vocalist. Pallbearers will be Amy Toenjes, Andrew Skalsky, Todd Kreibich, Denise Truso, Carmen Johnson, Bret Skalsky, Darcee Rehovsky, Bart Skalsky, Robin Skalsky, Tracy Skalsky, and Karen Olson.

Interment will be in the Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, Minnesota
