Obituary

Joseph Kemper, age 89, of Waubun, MN, died on December 18, 2007 at the MeritCare Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, ND, Joe was born on October 19, 1918 in Rosedale Township to Bernard and Mary (Niehaus) Kemper. He attended the Fish Lake Country School and worked on the home farm in Waubun. At the age of 19, Joe was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country for threeyears. On December 13, 1943, he was united in marriage to Larraine Haider at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. Upon his military discharge in 1945, Joe and Larraine purchased the Ahles farm, which they operated until 1981 when Joe retired. Joe's love for dairy cows was evident, as he continued to help on the farm until the time of his death. Known for his ability to dance, Joe looked forward to attending dances where he could polka and waltz. In his younger years, he played the violin and fiddle - even performing at barn dances. An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. In recent years, Joe liked gardening and enjoyed a good game of solitaire. He loved his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe is survived by five sons: LaMonte (Wanda) Kemper, Bozeman, MT; Michael (Colette) Kemper, Mahnomen, MN; Ronald (Jane) Kemper, Waubun, MN; Thomas (Karyn) Kemper, Moorhead, MN; Kenneth (Karri) Kemper, Isanti, MN; one daughter, Kathleen (John) Grise, Waubun, MN; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marie Schoenborn, Mahnomen, MN.
