Obituary

Jonathan LaFriniere, age 29, of Mahnomen, MN, died due to an accidental injury, on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Jonathan Charles LaFininere, the son of Bruce and Cheryl (Azure) LaFriniere, was born on August 10, 1990, in Mahnomen, MN.  He grew up in the Roy Lake, MN, area and spent a few years living in Bagley, MN.  As a young man, Jon was blessed with two son's Tarren and Jonathan Jr.  He was also the father figure in the lives of Jaylee and Jayla St. Claire, whom he loved as his own.  After attending school in Mahnomen, Jon earned his GED and was preparing to take college courses.  Several years ago, Jon met Aime Marquez and has shared his life with her since.  They made their home together in Mahnomen and were engaged to be married.

Jon was an outgoing, lovable man who made people smile. He was a natural born leader.  Jon loved his family and his children were his greatest accomplishment.  He liked spending time with his nieces and nephews and had an especially close bond with Jazzmine, Cameron, and Justin. Jon's cousin, Kenneth "Hawk" LaFriniere, was the closest thing he had to a best friend and his cousin, Ashley LaFriniere, was like a sister to him.  Jon had a great sense of style (swag) and always looked his best.  He also loved to eat!  A good homecooked meal was one of his favorite things.  He enjoyed gambling and going to the casino, but truly cherished his time in the outdoors.  He felt most at peace in the woods, near Naytahwaush, which Aime and himself referred to as "the Wild." In his spare time, Jon carved beautiful Dimond Willow pieces of art.  He tragically died to soon and will be missed by many.

Jon is survived by his children: Tarren, Johnathan Jr, Jaylee, his fiancé, Aime Marquez of Bakersfield, Ca; his father, Bruce LaFriniere of Mahnomen; his mother, Cheryl (Bert) LaFriniere of Mahnomen; two sisters, Sheena (Kristofer) Azure of Fargo and Shauna (Shaun) LaFriniere of Naytahwaush, MN; one brother, Brandon Rogers of Minneapolis, MN; grandmothers, Barbara "Bobbi" LaFriniere of Bagley and Anita Guinn of Roy Lake; three uncles: Jody LaFriniere of Naytahwaush, Scott LaFriniere of Bagley, and Chad (Jennifer) Guinn of Roy Lake; two aunts, Lynette (Mike) Thompson of Bagley and Tanya (Tom) Vold of Clearbrook, MN; ten nieces and nephews; and the mother's of his children Leslie Wakeup and Stephanie St. Claire; as well as many cousins, and extended family members; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles "Ben" and Delores Azure; and his paternal grandfather, John LaFriniere; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
