Johnny Ingeman Jensen, age 99, of Ulen, Minnesota, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.
Johnny Jensen was born July 23, 1909, the son of John and Inga (Haugness) Jensen in Cottonwood County, Minnesota. The family moved to Norman County, east of Borup, Minnesota, in 1913 and to Hagen Township, Clay County in 1926. Johnny worked on farms in North Dakota from 1928 to 1930 returning home in July of 1930. In 1931, he bought a farm located one mile east of the family home place. The two farms were farmed as a unit for many years. On June 28, 1944, Johnny was united in marriage to Dorothy Richardson. In 1945, Johnny began farming on his own. In 1966, he started working for the American Crystal Sugar Factory in Moorhead, Minnesota. He retired from farming in 1967. He and Dorothy moved into Ulen in 1973. Dorothy died in December of 1976. In 1982, Johnny bought Phil Jorgenson's recreation in Ulen. He operated it as Johnny's Recreation until November, 1992. After selling the recreation business, he kept busy by working at the Ulen Senior center. He enjoyed the time he spent helping the residents at the Viking Manor Nursing Home during Bingo games.
In June, 2003, Johnny moved into the assisted living facility in Ulen. He enjoyed his time there since he knew most of the residents. Johnny made his home at the Viking Manor Nursing Home in June of 2004, where he lived until the time of his death.
Johnny is survived by three brothers, Joseph Jensen of Vergas, MN, Marvin (Doris) Jensen of Fort Collins, CO and Anton "Tony" Jensen of Ankeny, IA; two sisters, Anna Sontag of Ada, MN, Lillian (Knute) Wefald of St. Louis Park, MN; brother-in-law, Norman Haugness; sisters-in-law, Helen Jensen, Lorraine Jensen, Glenice Jensen, and Charmaine Jensen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy, brothers, Arthur, Carl, Clarence, Henry, Orlean and Ordean, and sisters, Selma and Hilda.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, March 23, 2009, at 10:00 AM in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen. Officiating was Father Joe Decrans with Bonnie Lee serving as organist. Pallbearers were Johnny's nephews.
Burial took place in the Calvary Cemetery, White Earth, Minnesota.
