Obituary

John Ole Menton Wahlin, 86, Rindal, MN died on Monday, December 8, 2014, at his residence. John was born on January 24, 1928, to Fritz Ludwig and Olga Juliet (Sandberg) Wahlin at his home in Rindal. At the age of 8, his family moved to a farm two miles from Rindal. He graduated from the Fertile-Beltrami High School. John continued to dairy farm on the same farm he grew up on until he retired at the age of 65.
On June 21, 1952, John was united in marriage to Franciska Marie Ramstad. They were blessed with four children: John Reid, Shelley Sue, Christopher Todd, and Gail Franciska. John was a lifelong member of the Faaberg Lutheran Church, Rindal; he was also a member of the Fertile Lions Club for many years.
As the rock of the family, John had a deep love for each and every one of them. As a follower of Jesus Christ, John's faith was evident as he worked with Teen's Encounter Christ program, served in the church and lived out his daily life. Franny and John were privileged to host and unconditionally love Jairo Guttierrez and his sister, Maria, and several foster children at their home. His loving heart reached out to anyone who was hurting, never giving up hope. John carried many of their burdens in his heart.
Over the years, John and Franny were active in the National Farmer's Organization and Farmer's Union, fighting for fair prices for the products they grew. One of the produce John loved to grow was sweet corn and there was no better corn than "Johnny Corn". In his retirement years, John worked with Rural Outreach assisting those in need. He also demonstrated a deep love and tender spirit as a Foster Grandparent at the Fertile-Beltrami School. John reached out to many school children in need assisting them with their school work and assuring them of their worth. Several of these children were especially dear to John and he thought of them like his own grandchildren. He loved sports and kept track of what all the grandchildren were involved in and was so looking forward to watching his grandsons, Ben and Graham, play their final season of High School basketball. John made everyone feel special and had an unconditional love for all. We pray his legend of love is carried on through his children, grandchildren, and all of whom his life touched. Blessed be John's life.
John is survived by his wife, Franny, Rindal, MN; children: John Reid Wahlin, Fertile, MN, and his children: Jesse (fiancé, Alicia Bodway) and Joshua (Jennifer) and Taydem; Shelley Wahlin Quinlan (Robert), McIntosh, MN and children: Benjamin Tuseth and Brionna and Taryn, Melissa Meyer (Joshua), Aubrey, Kolton and Emery, and Joseph Tuseth; Christopher (Karla), Crookston, MN, and their children: Katrina (special friend Brent Halfmann), Kenley (Mandi), Kayla Benson (Jersey), Kamille; and Gail Sauve (Randy), Barnesville, MN and their children: Alex (Amanda) and Crosby, Claire Grunewald (Tyler), Maggie and Harrison, Jonas (special friend Denage Braaten), Peter, Benjamin and Graham, James Sauve, Issac and Kaylee Ann; step granddaughter, Katie (Quinlan) (Justin) Vaccari and their son Samuel; two brothers: Kenneth (Val) Wahlin, Mentor, MN; Joseph (Joyce) Wahlin, Superior, MT; one sister: Joan (David) Wensloff, Roseau, MN; numerous nephews and nieces and his cat, Annie.
