John Lawrence Townsend Jr, passed away at the age of 54 on March 17, 2025, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.

Born in Minneapolis, MN, on March 22, 1970, to John L. and Ann Oppegard Townsend, John's life was a blend of family, community, and compassion. He spent his early years living between the Minneapolis area and the White Earth Reservation, growing up near Roy Lake, MN. These formative years shaped the kind-hearted and generous spirit that would define his life.

John attended school in Mahnomen and later pursued welding, but his true passion was always helping others. It was through his work as a counselor that John found his calling, dedicating his life to assisting those in need. He was known for his willingness to lend a hand, offer support, or simply provide a listening ear to anyone who needed it. His kind heart and tireless dedication made him a trusted and valued friend to many.

John cherished his family. He shared a special bond with his sisters and treasured the time he spent with his loved ones. He enjoyed dancing, fishing by the lake, and hanging out with friends. His laughter, his smile, and his ability to make anyone feel at home will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

John is survived by his sisters: Margaret, Nancy, Andrea, June, and Lisa; his son, Darrell Lovejoy; several grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his fiancée, Lisa; his parents, John Sr. and Ann; brothers, Mike and Sam; and a niece, Shantell.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, with visitation beginning one hour before.
