John Paul Roy, age 59, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at his home, Mahnomen, MN.

John Paul was born September 29, 1959, in White Earth, MN, the son of George and Patricia (Smith) Roy.  His Indian name was "Anishinaabewininii", original man.  John attended school in Detroit Lakes, MN, and Mahnomen.  Following his schooling, he entered the work force.  Over the years, John Paul was a self-employed construction worker, mainly hanging sheet rock.  He met Wendy Martin and together they have shared their lives for the past 40+ years.  Due to his declining health, John recently retired.

One of John's favorite past times was socializing!  He loved a good time and spending time with family and friends.  He was a caring man with a big heart and would do anything for anyone.  John also enjoyed traveling and listening to country music.  He had a unique sense of humor and will long be remembered by all who were lucky enough to know him.

John Paul is survived by his significant other, Wendy Martin, of Mahnomen; two sons, Michael (Nikki) Kuntz of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Jeffery Coyer of Fosston, MN; two daughters, Billie Jo Savageau of Mahnomen and Holly Martin of Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers: Michael Connors of Callaway, MN, Leonard (Laura Guthrie) Roy of White Earth, MN, and Clarence (Brenda Geist) Roy of Moorhead, MN; four sisters: Karen Berg of Ogema, MN, Barb (Wade Peltier) Roy of Hillsdale, WI, Evelyn (Michael) Williams of Mahnomen, Donna (Paul) Carpenter of West Fargo, ND; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Patsy; a daughter, Donna; two brothers, George and Milton and one sister, Renee Roy.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, with a wake service at 6:30 p.m at the White Earth Community Center and visitation will continue until the time of the Funeral at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019, also at the White Earth Community Center in White Earth, MN. Inurnment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, White Earth, MN. at a later date.
