John
Rassel
Oct 27, 1944 — May 16, 2020
Waubun
John Rassel, age 75, of Waubun, MN, died Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Bethany in Fargo, ND.
John Rassel was born on October 27, 1944, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Herman and Mary (Sullivan) Rassel. He attended school at Popple Grove country school and later went to Waubun Public School. As he got older, John helped his Dad with milking cows and other farm work. The deaths of his Dad, in 1963, and his brother, Bobby, in 1969, was very hard on him. John later worked with his uncle, Tim Sullivan, who was contracted to lay telephone cable in both Goodhue and Redwing, MN. In 1982, John went to work for Marge and Loren Fabre on their farm, which he continued for many years. John also drove semi hauling grain for Fabres. Following Loren's death, John went to work for Haugo Farms. He truly loved farming and enjoyed working with Haugo's very much. On November 3, 2018 John suffered a fall on the farm and while recovering at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND, he unfortunately had a stroke. John then became a resident of Bethany on 42 nd in Fargo, where he has made his home since. In his younger years, John was quiet and shy. In his older years, he became quite the social butterfly. He enjoyed going to church dinners, french toast breakfasts and his coffee clutch at EZ One Stop in Waubun.
John is survived by his siblings: Helen Erickson, Coon Rapids, MN, Dorothy (Allan) Leff, Waubun, MN, Elaine (David) Leslie, Hibbing, MN, David Rassel, Fargo, ND, Rosemary (Bill) Anderson, Minneapolis, MN, Betty (Mark) Fabre, Glyndon, MN, and Jane (Mark) Bjerk, Glyndon, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Mary; his brother, Bobby; his brother-in-law, Dave Erickson; and his great niece, Cadence Ebner.
A Private Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun with Interment to follow at St. Ann's Cemetery.
