Obituary

John Nodsle, age 79, of Ulen, MN, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Sanford Health Hospital in Fargo, ND.

John Dennis Nodsle was born on February 13, 1939 to Henry and Thea (Olson) Nodsle in Ulen. He grew up on a farm near Ulen until the family moved in 1950 to a farm southeast of Hitterdal. While growing up and after high school graduation, John helped his dad farm, helped other farmers, and worked at a potato house in Sabin, MN. On October 21, 1961, John married Gwen Hettenbaugh of Glyndon at the Highland Grove Lutheran Church. The couple rented a farm southeast of Hitterdal until 1964 when they bought a farm west of Ulen. John farmed, milked cows, and was also employed at American Crystal Sugar. He also proudly raised beef cattle and worked as a truck driver for various gravel companies until mid-2000 when his health began to fail him. John and Gwen have continued to reside on the farm.

Old Minneapolis Moline tractors were a true passion for John. He sincerely enjoyed owning, restoring and driving them with his son, Bob. John loved spending time at the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag every Labor Day weekend. He spent countless hours helping them prepare for a successful season every year. When he wasn't busy with work or tractors, John enjoyed going to auctions, horse shows on the weekends with his daughters, and camping with the family at the lakes. His conversations and genuine smile aided him in making friends with everyone he met. John also served on the Hagen Township Board.

John is survived by wife of almost 57 years, Gwen; his children, Ronda (Larry) Fischer of Ulen, Jean (Kevin Hayer) Nodsle-Fuchs of Lake Park, MN, Robert (Cathi) Nodsle of Hitterdal, and Kristi (Todd Arntson) Nodsle of Lake Park; grandchildren: Christopher, Aaron, and Cole Peterson, Molly and Mason Fuchs, Joey, Nathan, Catey, John Henry, Megan, Cody, and Emma Nodsle, and Tate, Tristan, and Toby Elliott; seven sisters, Darlene (Owen) Braseth of Ulen, Lorraine Nelson of Hitterdal, Carol Meyer of Ulen, Beverly Schultz of Hawley, Donna (Gene) Tangen of Hawley, Diane (Waldo) Syverson of Hitterdal, and Ardith (LeRoy) Peterson of Hitterdal; as well as many special nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, June Carol; a son-in-law, Todd Peterson; and nephews, Bruce Meyer, Ron Nelson, and Chris Tangen.
