Obituary

John E. Meisinger, age 89, of Mahnomen, MN, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, in his home.

John Edward was born November 21, 1926, to Charles and Bertha (Kuntz) Meisinger in Detroit, MI. John graduated from Shrine of the Little Flower High School, Royal Oak, MI.  Following high school, he entered the United States Marines.  He served during WWII as a Tank Crewman and Rifleman.  John was honorably discharged as a Private First Class in August of 1946.  He made his home in Clawson, MI, and attended the University of Detroit.

On June 6, 1953, John was united in marriage to Della Marie Jaeger by Fr. Charles E. Coughlin at Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak. The couple moved to California where John furthered his studies.  He attended UCLA and also received a MBA and PhD from California Coast University.  He passed his CPA exam in Los Angeles, CA.  Over the years, John worked for different CPA firms and was a practicing CPA in California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Nevada.  John and Della moved to Wisconsin where he had his own CPA practice in Park Falls, WI, for 16 years until he was asked to work for the White Earth Tribe in Mahnomen, MN, as CFO.  Following this position, John worked for the Duck Valley Shonshone/Paiute Tribes (Duck Valley) Owyhee, NV, for three years as CEO.  He returned to Mahnomen and worked with the White Earth Tribe's Economic Development Corporation.

John was a lifetime member of APICS and American Society for Quality Control. He also completed the Buckley School Curriculum in Public Speaking.  He volunteered as an announcer/narrator for a public radio classical music station while living in Wisconsin.

John is survived by his wife, Della, of Mahnomen; four sons: Joseph of St. Cloud, MN, Christopher of Tustin, CA, Thomas of Squim, WA, and Gregory (Jennifer) of Green Bay, WI, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, William in 1975, a sister, Dolores Danyew, a brother, George, and his older brother, Paul, who was killed in action at the end of WWII in April of 1945. John also has four known ancestors that fought in the Revolutionary War, one being Captain William Shippin who was killed in the Battle of Princeton.

A Memorial Mass was held Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at 2:00pm at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen, MN. Time of gathering was one hour before the service.  Inurnment will be at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, MI.
