John B. Hellerud

John B. Hellerud, 87, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Halstad, MN died Monday, January 17, 2011, at Eventide Living Center, Moorhead.

He is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus. He was born on September 11, 1923, at home in rural Halstad, to Ted and Linda (Melberg) Hellerud. He was baptized and confirmed at East Marsh River Lutheran Church. He attended school at Halstad and Crookston A.C. and then farmed with his father.
John married Mary Opsahl on June 18, 1950 in Halstad. Together they raised 4 children. John was a faithful member of Halstad Lutheran Church, singing in the choir, serving on the church council and teaching Sunday School for many years. He was an active member in Halstad Potato Growers Association.

Left to mourn his death is his loving and devoted wife Mary, 3 children, David, Lubbock, TX, Joan (Steve) Anderson, Glendale, AZ, Philip (Bambi) of Halstad, and daughter in law Jackie Hellerud, Karlstad, MN. He leaves 7 grandchildren, Sara (Troy), Leah, Jon (Stacey), Jason (Chris), Joel, Evan and Logan. He leaves 6 great grandchildren, Kyle, McKenna, Emma, Ethan, Sydney and Brady. John will also be missed by his 3 sisters, Hazel Carlson, Esther Wolf, Audrey Eastvold and his brother in law, Paul (Geri) Opsahl, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his dear son Daniel. John was a kind and gentle man to his family and all who knew him.

Memorial Service: 11:00 Friday, January 28, 2011, at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: 5-7PM Thursday at Fredrikson Valley Funeral Home, Halstad, MN.

Prayer Service: 6:30PM Thursday at the funeral home.
