Joel Mark Nysetvold, age 61, of Twin Valley, MN, died Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Joel was born in Ada, MN to Arnt and Verna (Knutson) Nysetvold, baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. He graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1972 and Moorhead Technical College in 1974 with a degree in electrical construction. Joel was united in marriage to Lynelle Andring on July 2, 1976.

Following technical college graduation Joel became a partner in his father's electrical contracting business, Nysetvold Electric. When Arnt retired in 1983, Joel took over the business and as the years passed, Mark, John and Matt joined the family business.

Throughout his life, Joel was an avid sportsman especially enjoying fishing, duck, goose and deer hunting. He served 20 years as a volunteer fireman with the Twin Valley Fire Department. Joel joined the Catholic faith in the spring of 1989 and served in many positions at St. William's Catholic Church including trustee, parish council and the fall dinner grill team. He loved to cook and bake for friends, family get-togethers and his grandchildren. His specialties were prime rib, grilled turkey, cheesy potatoes, monster cookies, bread and buns. Joel especially treasured the time he spent with his three grandchildren – either at home or traveling. He had a great rapport with kids; he was a special uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and enjoyed the many kids that were a part of Lynelle's home day care. Joel took pride in his Norwegian heritage – and had a lot of fun with it. Among his family and friends, Joel will always be remembered for his humor, his hearty laugh and his ability to sing a "Jimmy Jenson" song or "Nikolina" like nobody else.

Joel is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lynelle Nysetvold of Twin Valley; three sons: Mark Nysetvold, John (Renne) Nysetvold, and Matt (Toni) Nysetvold all of Twin Valley; three sisters: Margit (Lyle) Bakke of Flom, MN, Maren (James) McGowan of St. Paul, MN, and Marcia (William) Garberg of Hutchinson, MN; one brother, Paul (Janet) Nysetvold of Fargo, ND; three grandchildren: Rhylee Wenschlag, Dylan and Caden Nysetvold all of Twin Valley, and many nieces and nephews. Joel is preceded in death by his parents, Arnt and Verna, and two brothers, David and Brian.

Funeral services were held on Friday, October 16, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at St. William Catholic Church, Twin Valley. Visitation was Thursday, October 15 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with Jim McGowan providing music and a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at St. William Catholic Church, Twin Valley. Visitation was also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Officiating was Fr. Joseph DeCrans with Monica Winter serving as organist. Vocalists were Janet Nysetvold and Janel Kresl. Pallbearers were Greg Syverson, Ben Fall, Dustin Crompton, Roger Bentley, Casey Crompton and Bruce Garberg. Honorary pallbearers were classmates from the Twin Valley Class of 1972 and fellow contractors.

Burial took place in St. Williams Catholic Cemetery, Twin Valley.
