Joan Kathleen Peterson, 66, of Lockhart, MN went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2017 after a long illness.

Joan was born August 23, 1950 in Crookston, MN to Harold and Emma Olson. She was raised on a farm in Beltrami. She graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School.  After graduation she went on and earned her associates degree.  Joan was a life-long student and later received her TMA (Trained Medication Aid) while working at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN, for 22 years.

Joan married Marvin Peterson March 31, 2001. They made a home together on the family farm near Lockhart.  An entry in her journal referring to their marriage certificate reads, "My name is in print; Joan Kathleen Peterson.  What a solid, promising, comfortable, belonging name.  Better yet, it is printed just below Marvin Peterson." Joan always made sure Marv was well taken care of whether he was spending the day on the tractor or out with the horses.  Joan and Marv loved each other very much and their home was filled with that love.  Joan once said that life begins at 50, and with Marvin, her life truly became anew, overflowing with gifts of love, kindness, and family.

Joan loved to entertain and bake for her guests. She would spend hours in the kitchen quietly whipping up amazing treats.  She enjoyed visiting and sharing moments with her friends and family.

Joan is survived by her loving husband Marvin, her children, Paul Odden (Heidi Bolgren) of Minnetonka, MN and Jenny Odden of Jackson, MO, her brother, Larry Olson, of Beltrami, brothers-in-law, Larry (Betty Jo) Peterson of Lockhart, Jon (Joanne) Peterson of Lockhart, sister-in-law, Dorie Sheldon and family of St. Cloud, MN, a nephew, Kary (Mandi) Peterson of Lockhart, nieces, Tammy (Scott) Stene of Ada, Kim (Ira) Bailey and family of Moorhead, MN, Jill Lammer of Minnetonka, MN, Janelle (Lonnie) Knoell and family, Lockhart, Jodi Peterson, Ada, Jerilyn (Bryan) Kazeck and family, Moorhead, MN, great-nieces, Lindsey, Ali, and Matti Stene and great-nephews, Nathan and Brody Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her younger brother Mark, her great uncle Hank, and a sister-in-law, Lavon Lammer.

Joan's children, Paul and Jenny, would like to extend thanks to those who provided our mother with friendship, compassion, love, and warmth over the years. We love you mom.  Your quiet strength will always be with us.  Your laugh will always echo in ours.  Your love will pass through us onto others.  You will live on through our character, spirit, humor, and love.  And we promise to always do our chores.  We love you mom.  You will be dearly missed.

Funeral: 10:30AM Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: Tuesday July 25, 2017, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM with a 6:30PM prayer service at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Ada.

Burial: Lockhart Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Ada, MN.
