Joan (Steele) Hedahl, 80, of Twin Valley, MN passed away while living at Twin Valley Living Center. Joan was the daughter of Alan and Margaret (Grignon) Steele from International Falls, MN. On January 16, 1955, Joan was united in marriage to LeRoy C. Hedahl at the Lutheran Church in International Falls, MN. The newlywed couple made their home in Halstad, MN for two years. In the fall of 1957, they moved to Twin Valley, MN. Because Joan loved people, she began a life-long career of helping folks. She started by working at the local Hartz Grocery Store in Twin Valley. In the autumn of 1976, she joined the staff at the Lutheran Memorial Home as a Nurse's Aide and enjoyed engaging residents in the Activity Department. Later on, she moved on to work in the Memory Care Unit. Then in 1980, Joan earned her General Education Degree from Ada, MN. In October of 1998, Joan decided to try retirement and after a brief hiatus, Joan started helping the elderly with their domestic duties. During this time, Joan also relished partaking in the Foster Grandparents program through the Gary School District. In 2005, at the age of 69, Joan accepted retirement as a lifestyle. For the later part of her loving life, Joan was a resident at the Twin Valley Living Center.
Joan's favorite pastimes included crafting, quilting, baking, fishing, and tending to her colorful flower gardens. Throughout her lifetime, Joan was an avid 4-H Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and President of the Twin Valley American Legion Auxiliary. Joan always made time to lend an ear, share a story, and bake her famous sweets. LeRoy and Joan were blessed with four beautiful children to which she cherished. Her grandchildren will always remember her quintessential grandmotherly acts of kindness and ability to build close relationships across the miles.
Joan is survived by her husband of 62 years, LeRoy from Twin Valley; Children: Debbie McDonald of Altoona, IA; Kyle (Rosana) Hedahl of Johnston, IA; Susan Hedahl of Frazee, MN; and Kathy (Dennis) Leines of Crookston, MN.
