Obituary

Jewell Kathleen "Kathy" Hoagland, age 54, died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 in her home.

Kathy, a heroin in her own time, made her home in Naytahwaush, MN, with her husband of 11 years, Earl Hoagland.

From the beginning, Kathy enjoyed family, being with her kids as they grew. Her love for her children was endless as she shared her time teaching them as she was learning at the same time. Kathy always talked with pride of her children to all, even as she opened her door to foster children and all needing a refuge, healing or teachings.

As Kathy built her dream with traditional camps, day labor programs, garden projects, starting a non-profit "Sah kah toz" and co-founding "Gii Waadin" "a learning place", she was able to do what she loved. She also enjoyed being in the woods with her husband gathering traditional foods and medicines to help others.

While living up to her given name, "Mii zi weg kaa miig ogema kwe" meaning "all over the Earth Boss Lady", Kathy never overlooked her children and grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed being with family and teaching them to help others while having fun.

To look at her family is to look at her, to walk your dream is to walk her dream, to use her teachings is to honor her memories. Miigwetch

Kathy is survived by her husband, Earl; five sons: Ken (Rochelle) Rodenwald, Melvin (Christine) Anderson, Robin Anderson, Leonard Anderson (Angela Kier) and David (Loretta) Hoagland Jr.; three daughters: Tamie Rodenwald (Lawrence Fairbanks), Annie Anderson (Jason Spencer), and Paula Littlewolf (Raymond Kier); her mother, Genevieve Poblano; 22 grandchildren: Natasha, Victor, Shawna, Kaydee, Karinna, Destany, Trinity, Precious, David, Brandon, Cheyenne, Natasha, Antonio, Alexis, Robby, Makenna, Richard, Josie, Keenen, Terry, LeAnne and Sebastian; two brothers: Lenny Usher and Gordy Usher; and five sisters: Judy Northbird, Sandy Hernandez, Wilma Wind, Roxanne Usher and Tammy Helen Usher.
