Jerry Lufkins, age 81 of Mahnomen, MN, formerly Rice Lake, MN died on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
Jerry Dean was born December 18, 1932, in White Earth, MN, to John and Anne Lufkins. His youth was spent growing up in the Rice Lake area and attending a country school. Following his schooling, Jerry entered the United States Army on February 21, 1951. He served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on March 13, 1954. After his discharge, Jerry returned to the Rice Lake area and began working as a logger. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found ricing, hunting, fishing or simply spending time in the woods. Jerry was a big fan of country music and even played the fiddle. He and his brothers had a band and for many years they played in local bars and garages. He liked to visit with friends and family and always had time for conversation. Jerry lived the majority of his life in the Rice Lake area until he moved into the Red Lake Nursing Home and most recently entered the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
Jerry is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Allan, George and Johnny and one sister, Irene Summers.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at St. Philips Episcopal Church in Rice Lake. Visitation began at 5:00PM on Tuesday at the Church and continued until the funeral on Wednesday. Burial took place at St Philips Episcopal Cemetery.
