Jerry A. Dunham, age 90, of Ulen, MN, died Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Veterans Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Jerry Arvid was born on November 11, 1927 to James and Anna (Dilrud) Dunham in Pelican Rapids, MN. He grew up on a farm helping out his family with the daily chores and attending country school. At the age of 17, Jerry joined the Navy, where he spent seven years in the military serving in World War II and the Korean War. He opened and operated a gas station in Moorhead, MN. He was united in marriage to Edith Peterson on June 11, 1955. The couple sold the gas station and moved to Ulen in 1957. They then made their home on a farm in Keene Township. They farmed and ran a dairy operation until 1981. Along with farming, Jerry worked at American Crystal Sugar as a maintenance worker from 1984 until his retirement in 1993. In his retirement, he spent his time working with horses and driving fertilizer truck for the Ulen Co-op.

Riding horse was a true passion for Jerry. He spent countless hours training and riding horse even well into his 80's. He was very fond of his team of Belgians that he drove for many years. Jerry's other true passion in life was his family. He loved camping and trail riding with them and telling the grandkids stories. Jerry passed on his love of horses to all of his grandchildren and their families. He was very proud of his military service and was active in the Ulen VFW until it closed, then transferred his membership to the Flom VFW, where he continued to serve. Jerry also enjoyed spending time with his beloved cow of 13 years, Julia.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Edith; his daughters, Aryls (Philip) Matson of Ulen, and Diane (Kenneth) Matson of Twin Valley; his special nephew Joe (Lisa) Kluver;  his grandchildren: Tori (Lovette) Spencer, Christina (Pat) Simon, Amy (Blake) Madson, Brittany (Brett) Lien, and Cassie (Jeff) Pender; 13 great grandchildren; his brothers, Emil (Grace) of Detroit Lakes, MN, Donnie (Sherrie) of Oxnard, CA, and Dale (Sally) of California; his sister, Doris Dahlsad of Detroit Lakes, MN; and many other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his two sons, Jerry Jr and James; grandson, Jordan; sister, Bernice Iverson; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Iverson and Orville Dahlsad.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen, MN. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a prayers service at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Keene Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ulen, following the funeral service on Thursday.
