Jerome "Jerry" Trautner, age 58, of Mahnomen, MN, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Sanford Health Systems, Fargo, ND.
Jerome Allen Trautner, son of Larry and Delores (Shea) Trautner, was born on May 4, 1953 in Mahnomen, MN. He grew up in Mahnomen and he attended public school there. While in high school he was given the nickname Kegs. After receiving his GED, he then continued his education at the vocational school in Detroit Lakes where he studied auto body. As a young man, Kegs lived for a time in Colorado before returning to Mahnomen. In the mid-1970's, he began working in the maintenance department for the City of Mahnomen. In 1985, Jerry was united in marriage to Cathy Dietz, and the couple was blessed with their son, Dustin. Kegs treasured being a father and later in life a grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, making many wonderful memories as an outdoor enthusiast. Kegs also had a passion for racing and was involved with his family race team over the years. Due to failing health, he moved to the Mahnomen Health Center in 2006. Most recently, Kegs enjoyed traveling in his electric wheelchair to Kings Corner to visit with friends and watch Minnesota Vikings football games. His quirky sense of humor and his friendly chats will be greatly missed by many.
Jerry is survived by his son, Dustin (Amanda) Trautner and one grandson, Ayden all of Clearwater, MN; two brothers: Mark (Rose Marie) Trautner of Mahnomen and Jim (Deb) Trautner of Detroit Lakes, MN; one nephew, Jamie; and two nieces, Jennifer and Haley. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial Service was held at 3:00pm on Monday, September 26, 2011 at the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home. Fr. Tony Fernando officiated with Jamie Trautner and Casey Dockter serving as honorary urn bearers. Fellowship was held at Kings Corner in Mahnomen following the service.
