Obituary

Jeanne Marjorie Boreen, age 93, ended her journey on October 18, 2019. Jeanne was born January 19, 1926 near Georgetown, MN, one of seven children born to Carl and Agnes Hanson. She met the love of her life, Grant Boreen, at the Dustbowl Dance Hall in Lake Park, MN. Jeanne loved to tell the story about their first dance to the song, "Ole Buttermilk Sky" – it was love at first sight. They were married October 12, 1946 at the home of her parents.

Jeanne worked side by side with Grant on the family farm north of Flom, MN, for most of her life. They were members of the Wild Rice Lutheran Church. Jeanne was the proud mother of 4 children; Jackie, Gerry, Greg and Chris. She was a woman of many talents – baking wedding and special event cakes for the community, sewing for her family and many others. She sewed all her daughter's wedding gowns, along with all the bridesmaid's dresses. After retiring from farming, Jeanne worked at various retail jobs, the last being a clerk and meat cutter at Johnson's Market in Flom. She also worked at the Lutheran Memorial Home in Twin Valley, MN, as a dietary aide after she and Grant moved off the farm and resided in the town of Twin Valley.

Jeanne and Grant were avid travelers and visited 48 of our 50 states in their motorhome. After the death of Grant in 1994, she made the decision to move to Fargo, ND. Jeanne had a spunky personality and she was able to bloom wherever she lived. One of her many passions in Fargo was her volunteer work at the Ed Clapp Senior Center, where she assisted with meals 5 days a week. Here Jeanne made many lifelong friends and learned to play Mexican Train Dominoes.

She was a devoted loving mother and grandmother. Family came first with Jeanne and her family would best describe her as the most generous woman they knew. She gave of her time, talents and love without hesitation. She enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren, bringing the Yahtzee dice and cards along with her. Jeanne treasured her time outdoors, which included a fall deer hunt with her son and grandson and fishing whenever she could, both in the summer and winter.

Jeanne was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. She and Grant were able to watch them play many times in Minneapolis. At one Twins game, Kevin was able to spot her tall white hair across the dome and came to find her and Grant for a hug and chat.

Jeanne moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, after a change in her health to be closer to family. She resided at the Lamplighter Manor for a period before her final move to Emmanuel Nursing Home in January 2019. She bloomed once again, drawing people to her spunky and outgoing personality. The staff and residents at Emmanuel loved her like family and dubbed her "Miss Jeanne, the queen" and she told anyone who visited that she "had it made in the shade ."

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Grant; her son in law, Dwight; her parents and her siblings. Jeanne is survived by her children: Jackie and Sherm Sylling, Gerry Fuglie, Gregor and Julie Boreen and Chris and Charlie Gnahn; her 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley.  Visitation will take place for one hour before the funeral at the church.  Burial will be in Wild Rice Lutheran Cemetery.
