Obituary

Jean Rae (Boyum) Waddington, 73, Fertile, MN, passed away on March 21st, 2023, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.

Jean was born November 7th, 1949, to Otto and Dorothy (Nicholson) Boyum in Crookston, MN. Jean grew up in Crookston graduating from high school in 1969. Jean worked at several places in Crookston, but it was when Jean and Jana (Jean's twin sister) worked at Jiffy-Fry that Jean met her future husband, Roger Waddington. They were united in marriage on March 26th, 1972. They moved to the family farm, where they raised their 2 daughters, April and Heidi. Roger passed away in 2003 and that's when Jean moved to town. Jean was admitted to the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in January of 2023. Growing up, Jean loved and excelled at sports including swimming, tennis, softball and ice skating. As an adult she took pride in watching her daughters playing sports and their involvement in other school activities, she also cherished spending as much time as possible with her granddaughters. We can't forget how much she enjoyed watching "Her Wilds", the MN hockey team. Jean will be remembered by her cheery disposition and fun loving spirit. She made friends easily and was well liked by all that met her. Jean is survived by her children, April (Jeffrey) Spigarelli, Brainerd, MN and Heidi (Michael) McMahon, Las Vegas, NV; 3 granddaughters, Elizabeth and Megan Spigarelli and Joelle McMahon; 6 brothers and 5 sisters in law, Jack (Diane) Boyum, Corona, CA; Warner (Linda) Boyum, Plymouth, MN; Terrance (Dianne) Boyum, Mentor, MN; Douglas (Karen) Boyum, Edina, MN; Boyd Boyum, San Antonio, TX; Donald Boyum, Mentor, MN and Emily Schroeder, Fargo, ND. Jean is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Dorothy; husband Roger; twin sister Jana Steffen and brother in law Russell Schroeder.
