Truman
Feb 17, 1949 — Dec 21, 2023
Ulen
Jean Truman, age 74, of Ulen, MN, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Jean Elaine Moen was born February 17, 1949, in Orlando, FL, the daughter of Oliver and Doris (Gosnell) Moen. At the young age of 3 months, she and her parents moved to Ulen to the family farm, making it a three generational homestead. Jean attended 1st through 7th grade in Ulen followed by grades 8 and 9 in Frederick, MD, when the family moved to Maryland and introduced Jean and younger brother, Wayne, to Doris' side of the family. After a couple years, they moved back to Ulen and built a new home on the family farm in 1964. Jean graduated from Ulen High School as the Valedictorian of the Class of 1967. Following graduation, she furthered her education at Moorhead State University. Jean then graduated in 1969 with an Associate of Arts Degree and began working at Bell Telephone. While working as a clerk in the engineering department, she witnessed four company name changes before retiring after 30 years of dedicated service.
Through a mutual friend, Jean met Ralph Truman, who became the love of her life, and they were united in marriage on April 7, 1973, at Bethlehem Church in Ulen. The couple made their home in Fargo, where Jean worked at the telephone company. She and Ralph, lovingly known as "Buzz" welcomed their sweet little baby girl, Lana "Missy" into the world on April 23, 1974. In 1996, Buzz and Jean moved back to Ulen, where they owned and operated a secondhand store, the Curio Shop, for a few years. Buzz passed away in 2013 and Jean continued to live in their home.
Jean was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the ladies aid and an active member of the Bethlehem Quilters. She truly enjoyed the time spent quilting, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and embroidery. Not only did she sew, but Jean also spent many hours mending, hemming and fixing zippers, etc for people for little to no pay. Jean had a true servant's heart and was always putting others before herself, no matter the situation. She was very helpful and would do anything for someone in need. Over the years, Jean also enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking, and reading. Above all, her greatest love was for her family, especially her grandsons. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Lana (Cory) Schatschneider of West Fargo, ND; two grandsons, Grant and Ian Schatschneider, also of West Fargo; one brother, Wayne (Kim) Moen of Ada, MN; niece, Aubrey (Kayler) Knott, nephew, Michael Moen; sisters-in-law, Kay Lasha and Janis McDougall; brother-in-law, Rick Shelhammer and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two infant children; sister-in-law, Sandra Shelhammer and brothers-in-law, Leon Lasha and Poncho McDougall.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with a prayer service starting at 6:30pm, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 28, at 11:00am, with visitation 1 hour prior, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. Burial will be in West Bethlehem Cemetery, Ulen.
