Jean Halland, age 91, of Fargo, ND, formerly Gary, MN, died Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo.

Jean Mann was born February 23, 1928, in Plentywood, MT, the daughter of Roy and Litha (Reddin) Mann.  She grew up and attended school in the Plentywood area and met the love of her life, Millard Halland, at a local dance. In 1948, Jean and Millard were united in marriage and made their home on a farm near Gary.  The couple was blessed with nine children and raised their family in the Gary Community.  Jean was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She also worked many years as a nurse's aide for Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home until she retired at age 65. In 1996, Millard passed away and Jean continued to reside in Gary until 2015 when she moved to Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo.

In her spare time, Jean enjoyed playing bingo, flower gardening, quilting, dancing, and traveling to Colorado to watch her children ski in the mountains. She was active in the ladies' aide and circle at Ness Lutheran Church. Jean took great pride in also being a part of the American Legion Auxiliary in Gary. Jean will be remembered by her contagious smile and laughter. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jean is survived by her nine children; Maynard (Nancy) Halland of Moorhead, MN, Ron Halland of Circle Pines, MN, Mike (Renee) Halland of Moorhead, Terry (Denise) Halland of Hawley, MN, Tim Halland of Gary, Joei (Ben) Uselman of Billings, MT, Mary Lee (Wade) Van Portfleit of Rifle, CO, Debbie (Roger) Stuhaug of Moorhead, and Diane (Dean) Weiser of El Jebel, CO; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter-in-law, Betty; one infant sister, Dorothy; and two brothers, Lyle and Max.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Ness Lutheran Church, rural Gary, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Anderson Family Funeral Home, Twin Valley, MN.
