Janice Peterick, age 70 of Sartell, MN, formerly of Mahnomen, MN, died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN.

Janice Marie Peterick was born August 13, 1940, the daughter of Oscar and Blenda (Olman) Samshal in West Fargo, ND. As a child, she moved with her family to Twin Valley, MN where she was raised. Janice was confirmed in her faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley and graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1958. As a young woman, she moved to the Twin Cities and was employed with the Grady Finance Company in Minneapolis. She later moved to Fargo, ND and worked in the placement office at North Dakota State University. On June 11, 1960, she was united in marriage to John Peterick in Twin Valley. They first made their home in the Fargo-Moorhead area and later lived in Erskine, MN. In 1964, they moved to Mahnomen to make their home and raise their family. In 1982, Janice attended Detroit Lakes Vo-Tech College where she received her LPN degree. She was employed at the Mahnomen Health Center for the next 10 years. After that she worked at the Mahnomen County DAC. In 2001, she and John moved to a home on North Twin Lake east of Mahnomen. They later divorced. Janice made her home in Sartell, MN where she lived until the time of her death.

Janice enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, sewing and crafts. She also enjoyed attending concerts and plays. Time spent with children and grandchildren brought Janice great pride and joy. She was a current member of Living Waters Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids, MN and also a member of the St. Cloud Area Fun Singers.

She is survived by six children: Cathy (Mark) Sauer of Sauk Rapids, Paul (Sandra) Peterick of Thief River Falls, MN, Chris (Keith) Lundsetter of Alexandria, MN, Tom (Tammy) Peterick of Hatton, ND, Mark Peterick of Fargo, and Beth (Tom) Stemn of Blaine, MN; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; former husband, John Peterick of Naytahwaush, MN; three sisters: Helen (Roy) Pinske of Ogema, MN, Marlene Hall of Yuba City, CA and Beverly Hovde of Twin Valley; two brothers, Milan (LaVern) Samshal of Crookston, MN and Ervin (DeeAnn) Samshal of Rice Lake, WI; and many nieces, nephews and counsins. Janice was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 11, 2011 at 2 pm at First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen, MN. The officiants are Pastor Tom Pairan and Pastor Denise Hanson with Diane Kochmann providing special music. Pallbearers are Janice's sons and sons-in-law: Paul Peterick, Tom Peterick, Mark Peterick, Mark Sauer, Keith Lundsetter and Tom Stemn. Honorary pallbearers are Janice's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 10th from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at the Anderson~Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen. Visitation will also continue one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Burial will take place at St. Olaf Cemetery, Faith, MN, at a later date.
