Janice Miller
Janice Miller, age 75, of Halstad, MN died on Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Halstad Living Center .

Janice Thea Hansen was born August 23, 1937 to Christ Rasmus Hansen and Valborg Elizabeth Otteson Hansen. She was their 8th child and youngest daughter. She grew up in Hunter, North Dakota and attended school there. She worked at a restaurant in Hunter and that is where she met Russ Miller, an auto mechanic. They were married June 12, 1954. They celebrated 54 years of marriage together before Russ passed away on December 31, 2008.

During their early years of marriage they lived in Hunter, ND Mayville, ND, and Grand Forks, ND. Russ worked at Forx Motors in Grand Forks where he was a salesman and mechanic. Later they moved to Gary, MN, in the late 1950's where Russ started farming. For many years Russ and Janice farmed and raised cattle on the Agsco farm. They stayed on farming and raising cattle for over 20 years. Later upon their retirement they traveled to the west coast and stayed in Oregon for one winter and moved to Halstad, MN.

Janice always helped on the farm, whether it was outside, cooking meals for hired hands during the harvest or doing bookwork .
Janice liked to crochet afghans, rugs, and make many different craft projects throughout the years. When the grandchildren were young, she would make them a Christmas decorations for the tree. She enjoyed playing cards, games and doing crosswords and putting together puzzles in the winter. Janice also enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Janice always had something made to go with afternoon coffee, whether it was brownies or peach pie made with lard crust. She canned many fruits and vegetables over the years. Janice worked at the Halstad Living Center in the early 1990's in the dietary department. Janice enjoyed going to South Twin Lake to spend time with family these past few years. The last few months of Janice's life she was cared for at the Halstad Living Center.

Janice will be missed by her son, Ross Miller of Halstad, MN, and daughters, Pam (Tim) Brownmiller of LeMars, IA , Jan (Rick) Harpenau of Remsen, IA . She has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also is survived by 1 sister, Irene Quittschreiber of Oregon, and 2 brothers, C.R. (Ingrid) Hansen of Oregon and Robert (Margy) Hansen of Arizona. Also survived by brother-in-law Jerry Newborg and wife Jean of Bismarck, ND. She also has many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Valborg, 2 brothers Alvin and Donald, 4 sisters Lorene Sather, Dolly O' Dell, Valborg Hanson and Mary Johnson.

The celebration of life service will be held at Fredrikson Funeral Home at Halstad, MN on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 10:30 am. Lunch will be served. Final resting place will be at the Twin Valley Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
