Janice Ruth Lindberg, age 85, of West Fargo, North Dakota, formerly of Fertile and Hutchinson, Minnesota, died peacefully on Wednesday April 8, 2026, at Eventide Sheyenne Crossing Long-Term Care Center in West Fargo, North Dakota.
She was born on May 13, 1940, to Melvin and Ruth (Haugo) Stromstad of Beltrami, Minnesota. She graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School in the Class of 1958, and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota where she was a member of the Concordia Choir under legendary director Paul J. Christiansen; an experience which she treasured her entire life.
She was united in marriage to Dennis Wayne Lindberg on December 25, 1960, at Scandia Lutheran Church, rural Beltrami. They made their home on a farm ten miles southeast of Fertile, where they raised their three children, sons Ross and Troy and daughter Dawn.
In later years, she returned to college and graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work, which she regarded as one of her greatest accomplishments.
Upon graduation, she accepted a position at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Minnesota, where she worked as the Music Director, Education Director, and as a Counselor for many years.
Jan maintained her love of music throughout her life, continuing to sing, playing piano, and developing a great love of performing in Community Theater musicals. Other joys were spending time with her children, grandchildren and welcoming the growing number of great-grandchildren. She was very thoughtful about others; never failing to surprise friends and family with her delicious home-cooked treats or the perfect gift for any occasion. She was a treasured friend to many. She was a pillar of faith in God, and her faith was a beacon of hope to others. That unshakable faith brought many to a relationship with Christ, including her three children. She truly lived out her faith in Christ.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Caryn Buerkle of Williston, North Dakota; LaVerne Sondrol of Fountain Hills, Arizona; and Beulah Smith of Federal Way, Washington.
Jan is survived by her three children, Ross (Olga) of Williston, North Dakota; Troy (Lizabeth) of Mentor, Minnesota; and Dawn of Moorhead, Minnesota; sister Rita Smith of Granite Falls, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and life-long friends, as well as several families from around the globe who dearly loved her and counted her as a member of their own families.
In lieu of flowers or memorials, the Lindberg family requests that you consider a donation to a local music program or a church of your choice.
