Janet Solie, 93, Ulen, Minnesota, died Friday, February 29, 2008, at the Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen, MN.

Orpha Junetta (Janet) Solie was born July 11, 1914, to Albert and Inga (Dyrendal) Asleson at their home in Ulen. Janet was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen where she had been an active lifelong member. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years and belonged to Circle and Ladies Aid. She graduated from Ulen High School in 1932. After graduation, Janet worked as a telephone operator at the local office and as a typesetter at the Ulen Union.

On August 17, 1941, she married Vince Solie in a private ceremony at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. After Vince got out of the Army, they made their home in Ulen where they raised their family. She sold Avon products for a few years and also had daycare in her home for a short time. She was the secretary at Bethlehem Lutheran Church for 16 years, retiring in June of 1984. Janet also wrote the community news for the Ulen Union for many years. She was a volunteer at Viking Manor and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Some of her hobbies included gardening, ceramics, reading, crossword puzzles, and handwork, which provided her family with many treasured heirlooms including baptismal gowns she crocheted which have been worn by grandchildren and all of her great granddaughters and great-great-granddaughters. They moved to the Northern Lights Apartments in 1996, after living in the same house for 50 years. They moved to Viking Manor in 1999. Vince died in July of 1999.

She is survived by one son, John (Joann) Solie, Brooklyn Center, MN, two daughters, Jean (Dennis) Pfau, Fargo, ND and Karen (David) Lien, Ulen, MN; two grandsons, Kyle Solie of Brooklyn Center, MN and Chuck (Wendy) Lien of Ulen, MN; four granddaughters, Shannon (John) Chounard, Shelley (Keith) Hilde, Stacey (James) Anderson, and Christy (Dan) Stall all of Ulen, MN; 14 great grandchildren, Tracey (Tony) Holte of Dilworth, Lindsey and Tanner Hilde, David, Wyatt, and Charlie Jo Lien, Levi, Colby, Lacey, and Jacey Anderson, Alissa, Austin, Katelyn, and Alexa Stall all of Ulen, MN, and three great-great granddaughters, Molly, Drew, and Lainey Junetta Holte of Dilworth, MN; one sister Patsey Maxfeld of Chicago, IL; one brother, Robert Asleson of Rollag, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday March, 5th at 10:30 AM in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen, Minnesota. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM all in the church.

Burial will be in North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
