Janet Faye Scott, 62, of Fertile, MN died Monday, December 26, 2011, at her home.

She was born on November 5, 1949, to Robert and Betty Jo (Sampson) Berhow in Chicago, IL. At the age of 5, she moved with her family to Fertile, where she attended school. Janet graduated from the Fertile-Beltrami High School in 1967.

On September 2, 1967, Janet was united in marriage to Michael "Mick" Scott at Varnes Lutheran Church, rural Fertile. They lived on the farm, where Mick was raised, the majority of their married life. Janet was employed in various positions in the Fertile area while her children were growing up. In the mid 1980's, she began working at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile as an LPN. Janet continued her nurses training and became an RN in the mid 1990's, when she took a position as an ER nurse at Riverview Hospital, Crookston, MN. For many years, Janet was a volunteer with County EMS as an EMT and later became a Paramedic. She was member of Little Norway Lutheran Church, rural Fertile.

For many years Janet served as chairwoman for the Relay For Life organization in Polk County. Janet's dedication inspired many to get involved with raising funds for support of the American Cancer Society. Janet had a large part in developing the annual fund raising event at the University of Minnesota Crookston that has grown over the years into a group of several hundred participants. Her team has been lovingly called "Janet's Angels", and, as a Relay, they set several records for raising money for the cause of fighting cancer.

Janet's huge smile conveyed the genuine spirit of love and care she had for others. She enjoyed people and people enjoyed her. Collecting angels, loons and lighthouses kept her busy. Watching hummingbirds feed on her porch, listening to loon's call, and sitting in the sun with her daughter relaxed her. Whenever there was an opportunity to travel, Janet was willing to go. She ventured to the both East and West coasts, took a cruise in the Caribbean, and visited family and friends whenever possible. Janet cherished her grandson, Blake, deeply loved her son and daughter, and was devoted to her beloved "Mick".

Janet is survived by her husband, Michael "Mick", Fertile; son, Matthew, Denver, CO; daughter, Janelle Frankeberger and her husband, Steve, and their son, Blake, Minneapolis, MN; three brothers: Dale (Brissa) Berhow, Irving, TX; Leon Berhow, Duncan, OK; and Aubrey (Linda) Berhow, Crandall, TX; one brother-in-law, Gordy Gudvangen, Fertile, MN; several nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Connie Gudvangen, 2008.

Funeral service will be 11:00am on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.

Visitation: Friday, December 30th from 5:00-7:00pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm at the church.
