Janet Rae (Hershey) Hegreberg, age 84, of Ada, MN, formerly of Borup, MN, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Twin Valley Assisted Living.

Janet Rae Hershey was born on June 5, 1941, in Waseca, MN, to Cletus and Iona (Eisert) Hershey. Throughout her childhood, the Hershey family moved across Minnesota, from Waseca to Greenbush, Roseau, back to Waseca, and then Moorhead, MN. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1959 and went on to attend Moorhead State College. It was there, on her very first day, that fate stepped in and Janet met the love of her life, Marshall Hegreberg. They had their first date at Duane's House of Pizza, which would become their "special place". The two were united in marriage on June 8, 1963, at Grace Methodist Church in Moorhead.

They made their home in Moorhead, where Janet worked at Waterman's Department Store until they started their family. In 1969, the Hegrebergs moved to Marshall's family farm near Borup, MN. As the kids were growing up, Janet was a stay-at-home mom, assisting with the many school, church, 4-H and other community activities they were all involved in, as well as helping out on the farm. Later on, Janet worked at Faye's Café and Catering, and became a caregiver/helper for Cora Bolstad. Then she began working at the Ada SLS group home with Lutheran Social Services, a job she continued for 17 years. In 2021, Janet and Marshall moved into an apartment in Ada, where she lovingly cared for him until his passing in December, 2022. In 2025, Janet moved to Twin Valley Assisted Living.

Janet had a one-of-a-kind personality - spunky, out-going and always ready with a lively remark. She had a gift for conversation and could strike up a friendship just about anywhere. Throughout her life, Janet found joy in tending to her vegetable, flower and rock gardens, as well as keeping up the large lawn at the farm. Janet also enjoyed thrift shopping, always on the lookout for unique treasures and trinkets. She took special delight in collecting anything "Hershey," a playful nod to her maiden name. She enjoyed her many trips across the U.S. with her daughter, Keyla, and sister, Julie. Janet served as a 4-H key leader, participated in a bowling league, was active in Homemakers, and generously gave her time in many roles at Winchester Lutheran Church in Borup.

Janet is survived by her children: Kelby Lane (Pat), Keyla Lyne, and Korey Lann; five grandchildren, Cody (Cheyenne), Alea (Jeff) Elijah, Adeline, Coltin, and Kiera; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Wayne (Louise) Hershey, Julie (Steven) Thornton, Jerry (Kim) Hershey, and Robert (Lindy) Hershey; and many extended family.

Janet was greeted in Heaven by her beloved Marshall, her parents, and many other close family and friends she had been waiting for a long time to see again.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 1:00 PM, with a visitation starting at 11:00AM, at Winchester Lutheran Church in Borup, MN.
