Jamie Dean Gunderson was born November 18, 1971, the oldest son of Beverly (Abdo) and Stanley Gunderson. He was raised in Mahnomen and graduated with the class of 1991. Following graduation, Jamie worked for Marvin Windows and then the Shooting Star Casino. He started as a security guard and worked into a blackjack dealer and floor person. In 1993, Jamie met Betty Hanks and the two were united in marriage on July 8, 1995. The couple made their home on Jamie's grandparents place west of Mahnomen. After working at the casino, Jamie worked with his dad at Gunderson and Sons Blading. He continued working with his dad until 2009 when he purchased the business and renamed it Gunderson Blading and Landfill. A business he was proud to own and operate until the time of his death.
In high school, Jamie played football, baseball and excelled at wrestling. In more recent years, he enjoyed playing horseshoes, kitten ball, bean bags, and pool, all of which came naturally to him. Jamie was known to be a rather quiet individual but also one you didn't want to cross. He was a true friend and more so a protector to all he loved right to the end. Jamie adored all of his furry four legged family but more than anything his greatest love was the opportunity to be a Grandpa "Papa" a few short months ago. His family meant the world to him and he fought hard to stay but his body simply would not allow him to go on. After spending the day with family and saying his farewells, Jamie died Friday, January 27, 2017, at the Mahnomen Health Center with Betty faithfully at his side.
Jamie is survived by his wife, Betty, of Mahnomen; a son, Evan (LaKeisha) Gunderson Sr. and grandson, Evan Dean "EJ" Gunderson Jr. of Mahnomen; step-daughter, Dana Wernke of Minneapolis, MN; his parents, Stan and Bev Gunderson also of Mahnomen; one brother, Jeremy Gunderson of Mahnomen; brother-in-law, Greg Hanks of Fargo, in laws, Marilyn Hanks of Fargo and Alan "Bud" (Theresa) Teiken of Ogema; nephews: Christopher Taylor, Tevin Gunderson, Tevin Hanks, Tre Hanks, Michael Hanks and Xavier Hanks; nieces: Brandy Netland, KyaMae Gunderson, Brylee Clark, and Tiuana Hanks and aunts, uncles and cousins.
