James Conrad VanValkenburgh, age 43, of Naytahwaush, MN, died Thursday, January 3, 2008, in his home.
James was born June 17, 1964 in Santa Monica, CA, to Robert Leroy and Thelma (Keezer) VanValkenburgh. Growing up, James lived with his family in Maryland, Arizona and Colorado. In May of 1983, James entered the United States Army where he served in Germany. After an honorable discharge, he moved to the Naytahwaush area to make his home.
James worked at the Shooting Star Casino since it opened; first as a blackjack dealer, then as an electrician in the maintenance department. Whether it was fishing, leeching, ricing or maple syruping, James truly loved the outdoors. He had a good sense of humor, always telling jokes or pulling someone?s leg. Nothing could beat a good laugh. James was also part of the Gina Lang Family for 16 years and treasured spending time with family and friends.
James is survived by his mother, Thelma VanValkenburgh, of Naytahwaush; three sons: Peyton Zornes, Gene Lang and Wally Lang; one grandson, Jesse James Giard, all of Naytahwaush; two brothers: Terry Alger and Bruce Alger (Diane Bush), also of Naytahwaush; three sisters: Holly Alger (Kennedy Hill), of MahKonce, MN, Robin VanValkenburgh, of Asheville, NC, and Tracy VanValkenburgh. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father; two nieces, Alicia and Heather Alger and a nephew, Joe Alger.
