James Myhre Sr, age 63, of Mahnomen, MN, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at his home.
James Dale Myhre was born April 17, 1959, in Virginia, MN, the son of Roy and Florence (Hemry) Myhre. He grew up in the Eveleth, MN, area where he attended school. As a young man, Jim entered the United States Army and proudly served his country. Following his discharge, he was united in marriage to Margaret Shambow and they were blessed with four children. They lived on the Iron Range where they had a hobby farm until 1993, when they moved to Mahnomen to make their home. Most of Jim's working career he was a construction contractor except for a few years before retirement when he worked at the casino.
Jim loved his family, and had many interests including hunting and fishing, the great outdoors and talking politics. He played several instruments and enjoyed playing his guitar and jamming with his family and friends. Jim was proud of his yard and loved to see things grow. He spent many hours working to make a beautiful yard and garden. He was of Lutheran descent and had a strong faith that was evident in his day-to-day routine. Jim will be remembered for his generous heart and his plentiful garden.
James is survived by his wife, Margaret; three daughters: Marlene (Mathew Wytaske) Myhre, Toni Myhre, Summer Myhre; one son, James Myhre Jr.; eight grandchildren: Faith, Joseph, Jameson, Tristan, Landon, Caden, Natalie and Cody; one great-grandson, Adrian; six sisters: Dorothy King, Sharen Olson, Marilyn Matteson, Margo Shambow, Barb Ferkul, and Ann Purkat; two brothers, Charles and Rodney Myhre; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jessica; nephew, Preston, and niece, Jennifer.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 29th from 1 - 3pm at his home. All family and friends are welcome.
