James D. Prince, age 54, of Mahnomen, MN, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at his home.
James David Prince was born September 1, 1956 in Wayzata, MN, to Dolores Hasbrook. He grew up and attended school in the twin cities, where he was raised by his mother and step-father, Charles "Ben" Azure.
As a young man in 1973, James entered the United States Marine Corp. He served for four years then transferred to the Marine Corps reserve. Following an honorable discharge, James returned to the Twin Cities area, where he worked at Archie's Standard and had two children.
In the late 1980's, James moved to the Roy Lake, MN, area. He was employed at various places, including the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, as a blackjack dealer and host. James had recently moved from Roy Lake into Mahnomen to make his home.
James treasured the times he was able to spend with his two grandchildren. He enjoyed the simpler things in life, like riding his bike, telling a good joke, playing on his computer and keeping to himself. James also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino.
Surviving James are his children and grandchildren: Philip LaFriniere of Minneapolis, MN, Renee Prince and her children, Mika and Alex of Mahnomen; his mother, Dolores Azure of Roy Lake, MN; a sister, Cheryl LaFriniere (Alrick Wadena Jr.) of Mahnomen; a half sister, Judy (Jerry) Healey of Billings, MT; one uncle, Lyle (Colleen) Hasbrook of Washington; one aunt, Lois Mougin of Iowa; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; step-father, Ben Azure; two brothers, Robert and Ben; and several aunts and uncles.
A Memorial Service was held Friday, June 3, 2011 at 2 pm at the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN, with a time of gathering one hour prior to the service. Reverend Robert Roy led the service and military honors were provided by Mahnomen American Legion Isaacson-Bjorge Post #31, White Earth Honor Guard and MNARNG Honor Guard.
Inurnment was at Samuel Memorial Episcopal Cemetery in Naytahwaush, MN.
