James Huseby, age 83, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Tuesday, February 27, 2007, in Innovis Health, Fargo, North Dakota.
James Alton Huseby was born July 10, 1923 in Homelake Township, Minnesota, to Hans and Clara (Grondahl) Huseby. He was baptized and confirmed in Syre Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley. James was treasurer of the Syre Lutheran Church for many years as well as serving on other committees there and was still treasurer of the Syre Lutheran Cemetery. When the Syre Lutheran Church disbanded in 1965, James and his mother joined Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. As a member of Zion Lutheran Church, he served on the Deacons, Trustees, Nominating Committee as well as ringing the church bell, ushering and lecturing.
In 1963, James bought the homestead where he had been born, from his father. This farm was homesteaded in 1878 by his grandfather. James was awarded the Century Farm award in 1993. He was an avid dairy farmer, continuing the tradition of milking shorthorns on the farm. In 1965, he registered his cattle and joined the American Milking Shorthorn Association. James then began showing his cattle at the Minnesota State Fair, Red River Valley Fair, Norman and Mahnomen County Fairs and the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin. He received many awards for his cattle in breeding and milk production. He was very proud of his herd and had a prize winning bull that weighed 3,100 pounds which he lead down the road to Syre to weigh on the elevator scale.
James has served as Homelake Township clerk for 48 years, as sexton of Syre Lutheran Cemetery for 42 years and has been president of the Minnesota Chapter of American Milking Shorthorn Association. He was an active member of the Flom area Lions and had served as president. James was also an active member of the Caring Community Auxiliary and delivered Meals on Wheels as well as doing volunteer work at the Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley. Besides the time James dedicated to his cattle, various clubs and organizations, he cared for his disabled mother for 25 years. He was a very kind and caring individual.
In 1988, James met Harriet Klemek at the Minnesota State Fair while showing cattle there. On June 28, 1992, James and Harriet were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. When James said "I Do", he became a husband, father and grandfather. James was very loving and devoted to his new family.
James is survived by his wife, Harriet of Twin Valley, MN; sons, John (Gloria) Klemek of Twin Valley, MN and James (Cindy) Klemek of New York Mills, MN; daughter, Heidi Ferrier of Twin Valley, MN; one sister, Barbara Gwin of Twin Valley, MN; three grandsons, four granddaughters and two great-granddaughters; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Ellen Cross and Joan Grondahl.
James had a strong faith in God and lived his life in that faith. Blessed be his memory.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 2nd from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:30 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel, Twin Valley. Visitation will also be one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 3rd at 10:30 AM in Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley. Officiating will be Pastor Charles Bade with Danette Gwin serving as organist and Mark and Rhoda Habedank serving as vocalists. Pallbearers will be Wayne Gwin, Ron Gwin, Dwight Gwin, Joel Gwin, Kim Gwin, Randy Grondahl and Dean Cross. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Homelake Township Officers, Curtis Reardon, Eldred Opsahl, Robert Tjon, Loyal Sakrismo, the American Milking Shorthorn Association and the Flom Area Lions.
Interment will be in the Syre Lutheran Cemetery, rural Twin Valley, Minnesota.
