James Hilde, age 82, of Twin Valley, MN died on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at his home in Twin Valley.

James was born September 25, 1936 to Honard and Amanda (Braseth) Hilde in rural Ulen, MN.  He attended country school and grew up in the Ulen area.  James was united in marriage to Leona Shaw on September 14, 1955.  The couple made their home in Embarrass, MN, where they had four children and James built the family home.  James worked for Reserve Mining Company and was injured on the job.  He went for retraining and became an optician.  The family moved in 1975 to Norfolk, NE where they had their fifth child.  James worked for Walman Optical Company until being transferred to Kalispell, MT in 1977, where they made their home until 1996.  During their time in Montana, James was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and exploring the mountains.  James and Leona moved to Lengby, MN in 1996 where they made their home.  James spent countless hours in his barn working on things and maintaining his garden and trails throughout the woods on the property.  James and many family members hunted there.  After Leona passed away, James moved to Twin Valley, MN in 2013 to be closer to his children.  James spent much of his time driving and visiting, even making many trips to Arizona to spend time in the winter with his brother, Harry.  In August 2018, he moved in with his daughter, Amy, after having a heart attack.  He lived there until his death.

James is survived by one son, Lars Hilde of Bigfork, MT; three daughters: Pamela (Dan) Struble of Ulen, MN; Kathy Hilde of Bozeman, MT; and Amy Olson of Twin Valley, MN; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harry Hilde of Lindstrom, MN and Gisle Hilde of Ulen, MN; and several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents Honard and Amanda; wife Leona; son, James Amond Hilde; son-in-law, Matthew Olson; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Hilde; two brothers, Wallace Hilde and Lowell Hilde; and one sister, MaryLou Syverson.

A Graveside service will be held on June 22, 2019 at 10:00 AM at North Bethlehem Cemetery in Ulen.  A luncheon will take place at the Ulen Event Center following the service.
