James H. Hanson, age 89, of Burnsville, MN, formerly Mahnomen, MN, died peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
James was born April 18, 1930 to Merwyn and Esther (née Swanson) in Grand Forks, North Dakota and raised in Mahnomen, MN. Upon graduating from Mahnomen High School in 1948 he attended the University of North Dakota where he graduated with a degree in Business and Economics. He served as a corporal in the US Army in Korea from 1952-1954. In 1960 he met his beloved wife Angie and on June 3, 1961 they were married. Jim worked at First National Bank in Mahnomen as head cashier until his retirement in 1995.
Jim had a passion for American history which he passed on to his children. During family vacations he was known to stop at every historical marker he encountered. He loved watching all sports and was an avid reader of many newspapers and magazines.
Jim was a member of the Shriners, Masons, VFW, First Lutheran Church, and served on the Mahnomen County/Village Hospital Board. He also very much enjoyed the time that he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his brothers: Leslie and Robert; sisters: Jean Munson, Muriel Hanson, and Ann Louise Hanson; sister-in-law: Ethel Hanson. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Angeline; children: Murray (Kristi) Hanson, Thomas (Kristine) Hanson, and Julie (Jeff) Richards; grandchildren: Jackson (Mary) Hanson, Kamryn Hanson, and Sam Hanson; great grandchildren: Eleanor and Gabrielle; sister-in-law, Jean Hanson; Also by his loving nieces and nephews;
Locally, Graveside Services and Military Honors will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, June 7, 2019 at the First Lutheran Cemetery, Mahnomen, MN. An additional time of fellowship and refreshments will be held following the inurnment at the First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen, MN.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at White Funeral Home (12804 Nicollet Ave) in Burnsville, MN, with a Memorial Visitation one hour prior to the service.
