James "Jim"
Bevins
Aug 13, 1953 — Feb 24, 2024
White Earth
James "Jim" Bevins, age 70, of White Earth, MN, died on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home, Mahnomen, MN.
James Edward was born August 13, 1953, in Ann Arbor, MI, the oldest child of George and Lois (Smith) Bevins. At a young age, the family moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, for a short time before relocating to the White Earth area. During high school, Jim was active in Football, Boxing and Wrestling and graduated from Waubun High School. After graduation, he married Lillian Paulson but the couple later parted ways. Jim attended Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Wadena, MN, where he received his welding certification. In the early 1980's, Jim met Margaret "Peggy" Nelson. Together they raised their family and over the years made their home in Detroit Lakes, MN, Callaway, MN, Fargo, ND, Mahnomen, MN, and Florida. Jim and Peggy made their union official on April 15, 1995, when they were united in marriage in Detroit Lakes. Over the years, Jim worked as an EMT for White Earth, at the Shooting Star Casino but mainly as a welder, working many years for Fargo Foundry. Peggy passed away in 2011 and Jim remained in Callaway with his daughter, Tiffany, until his health began to deteriorate. He later moved in with his granddaughter, Kailene. Jim and Kailene had a special bond, and she was able to open her home to him and help him through all the ups and downs he was facing. Jim only recently moved to the nursing home in December of 2023 to make his home.
In his younger years, he was known to be something of a partyer but later he enjoyed watching old westerns on television, tinkering on vehicles and gambling. He had both a sweet tooth and a great sense of humor. Jim was known to prank and terrorize anyone he could, but on the flip side he loved to spoil his grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever possible. He will be greatly missed by many family and friends.
Jim is survived by a son, Jamie (Danelle Keezer) Bevins Sr. of White Earth; three daughters: Jennifer Pinneo of Wasilla, AK, Tiffany Bevins and April Bevins, both of Callaway, MN; four stepsons: Richard Hayes, Charlie Hayes, David Hayes and Norman Hayes; a sister, Jeanine Bellanger of White Earth; sister-in-law, Dorothy Watson; numerous grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy; two daughters, Jessica and Collette; a grandson, Jamie "Honker" Bevins Jr.; a sister, Avis Pederson; two brothers, Gary Bevins Sr. and Samuel Watson; brother-in-law, Francis "Butch" Bellanger and two nephews, Matthew Bevins and Ethan Berry.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in White Earth, MN, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
