Obituary

Jackie Narum Mitchell, 43, Horace, ND, formerly of Ada, MN, died Sunday, February 12, 2012, at home.

Jackie (Jacquelyn) Carol Narum Mitchell, 43, Horace, ND, formerly of Ada, MN, died Sunday, February 12, 2012, at home.

Jackie was born on December 20, 1968, to David and Carol Narum, in Ada, MN, the youngest of three children.  She was baptized on January 5, 1969, and confirmed on November 4, 1984, in Grace Lutheran Church in Ada, she attended and graduated from Ada High School in 1987.  Throughout her growing up years, she always loved her animals (dogs, cats, turtles, hamsters), the outdoors, 4-wheeling with her brothers, and time with her cousins.  During the summer, the whole family farmed.  Jackie's jobs included mowing the lawn and helping with all the household chores.  At Christmas time, she enjoyed the yearly camper trips with her family. And in her adult years, she truly enjoyed playing with her niece and nephews and buying them fun and loud toys for birthdays and holidays.

Following high school graduation, she continued her education at Moorhead Tech and graduated as a Legal Secretary in l988.  She also worked at Royal Jewelers while attending Moorhead Tech. Her legal career started with a law firm in Moorhead, MN, until she acquired a job at the Hellerud-Larson Law Firm in Ada, MN. She was employed there until 1997.

She was united in marriage to Robert Mitchell on July 8, 1989.  Together, they established and operated Mitchell Farms, Inc.

Jackie met the love of her life, Josh Albert, in 2008.  Together, they enjoyed fishing, spending time with Josh's son, Hunter, and family time with the rest of Josh's large family.  This is a family who accepted and loved Jackie, unconditionally, with open arms and kind hearts.

In the fall of 2011, she began her current employment with the Davenport (ND) Elementary School as a kitchen assistant.  She really enjoyed her co-workers and, especially, interacting with the children.  She often came home with fun little stories about silly things they said to each other.

Her hobbies included following NASCAR racing and football.  She also enjoyed her black IROC and her white Corvette.  She continued to love animals throughout her life.  Her current companion, her dog, Boss, was always a comfort to her. Josh and Hunter loved her dog, as well, and will continue to care for him.

Jackie battled with depression for several years.  She needed stronger arms than all of ours to hold her, and so she left us on February 12, 2012. May the Lord bless and keep her and give her peace.  With heavy hearts we must let her go. We will always ask ourselves what we could have or should have said or done to help her. Our prayer is that all of us will look beyond the smiles we see and the "I'm OK" responses we often receive from family or friends who struggle with depression, that we will show unconditional love and support, and that we will educate ourselves to recognize the warning signs of depression so we can get them the help that they need. Then, we must learn to talk about depression and suicide in order to help others who may be fighting and struggling with their own demons. Let's not hide because it is more comfortable.

Jackie left behind her parents, Carol and David Narum, two brothers, Jim (Joleen), Ada, and their children, Tyler and Tori, and Jerry (Linh), Washington D.C., and their children, Zachary and Zander, Josh Albert and son, Hunter, and their entire family.
