Jack Gray, age 76, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Friday, October 31, 2008 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Fargo, North Dakota.
John D. (Jack) Gray was born April 11, 1932 the son of John and Dorothy (Nafziger) Gray on a farm south of Twin Valley. At the age of 11, he moved with his family to a farm west of Twin Valley. He attended school in Twin Valley as a boy. As a young man he farmed with his father and also neighbors. In February of 1953, Jack entered the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany where he was a lineman in a commutations company until his honorable discharge in 1955. Jack returned to the Twin Valley community where he worked on area farms and later worked for the Twin Valley Creamery as a truck driver. Jack purchased his own milk truck and operated a milk route in the Fertile area. In 1968, he lost his left leg due to cancer. After he recovered from that surgery he worked as a clerk in a motel in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, for several years. In the 1970's he moved back to the farm near Twin Valley where he lived with his parents and brother, Duane. A few years ago Jack and Duane moved into Twin Valley where he lived until the time of his death.
As a boy Jack was active in 4-H and loved riding horses. Jack's favorite past times included watching TV, playing cards and listening to country music. He also was an avid car racing fan and would often attend area races. Jack always enjoyed driving but after he lost his leg, he could be seen most anywhere driving his car, often several hundred miles a day. He would drive somewhere, stop, and maybe sit on a bench and visit with passersby, look the county over, and then return home that night.
